The Marvel Universe is absolutely teeming with a wide variety of superheroes who have a vast array of different superpowers and skill sets that help them in their battle against evil both local and intergalactic. Most of them are pretty good at their job, but that doesn't come without its caveats.

Certain heroes may still be quite adept at saving the day but still need a hand every once in a while. In fact, some Marvel heroes seem to need saving pretty much all the time. That doesn't make these characters bad heroes, but it does lead one to think that they should probably do a bit more training before going back onto the field.

10 Jean Grey Has Been Preyed Upon By The Phoenix Many Times

Jean Grey Ignites in Phoenix Fire

The Phoenix Force's fixation on Jean Grey has led to her being in need of rescuing on many occasions. This is through no real fault of her own, as the Phoenix Force is an unfathomably powerful entity of pure cosmic fire. The first instance of the Phoenix's interference in Jean's life actually found the Phoenix Force rescuing her from being killed by the sun's radiation.

Later, the X-Men had to fight on the Phoenix's behalf against the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. After dying and being resurrected by the Phoenix, Jean was possessed by it again and had to be saved from it by Wolverine. When the Phoenix resurrected Jean Grey again, it was Old Man Logan who helped her free herself from the Phoenix Force for good.

9 Havok Has A Bad Habit Of Being Manipulated By Telepathic Women

Goblyn Queen and Havok

Havok of the X-Men has needed his fair share of saving too. He was saved by the X-Men and even Power Man and Iron Fist from being used as a battery for the Living Monolith. He was also saved from being used by Madelyne Prior as the Goblin Prince by the X-Men and X-Factor.

More recently, Havok was among the characters who had their morals flipped by Red Onslaught during AXIS (by Rick Remender, Leinil Francis Yu, Jim Cheung, Terry Dodson, and Adam Kubert), and he became a villain and was joined by Emma Frost, Miss Sinister, and Bastion. Finally, Polaris, Emma, and Elixir would give Havok his mind back.

8 The Chaotic Nature Of Scarlet Witch's Powers Have Left Her In Need Of Help Many Times

Scarlet Witch AXIS Wanda Maximoff

Scarlet Witch's immense power has put her in the position of needing help several times. She had to be saved from Chthon when he attempted to take control of her and her chaos magic.

She would later turn on the West Coast Avengers at the behest and manipulation of Magneto. After her team snapped her out of this, she would break apart the Avengers in a rage until Doctor Strange stopped her. When Quicksilver manipulated Wanda into forming the House of M reality, it was a coalition of Avengers and X-Men that convinced Wanda to undo this damage.

7 Jubilee Made The X-Men Wary Of Having Such A Young Member

X Men Legends Jubilee.

In her earliest adventures with the X-Men, Jubilee was almost killed by a Reaver hound, the Hand, and Psylocke as Lady Mandarin. Thankfully, she would survive all these instances and be made a part of the team.

Unfortunately, close calls with Omega Red, Mojo, and others convinced the X-Men to put Jubilee on the bench for a while. Since then, Jubilee has proven herself a capable and compassionate hero, and she is currently working with Excalibur on Krakoa.

6 Doctor Strange Is No Stranger To Being Pulled Out Of His Own Messes

Seven Suns of Cinnibus

Doctor Strange has a bad tendency to create messes that he needs to be pulled from. He had to get the help of the New Avengers to find the new Sorcerer Supreme after he gave up the title. Later, he would bring literal Hell to Las Vegas and need the help of Wong and the new Midnight Sons to save him from being controlled by Mephisto.

He also made the questionable move of seeking aid from the Sentry when Loki usurped the title of Sorcerer Supreme, a move that later had very dire consequences.

5 The Wasp Was Once Relegated To The Damsel In Distress Role Pretty Frequently

A chipper Janet Van Dyne as the Wasp in Marvel Comics

The Wasp has had the unfortunate role of damsel in distress in many of her earlier adventures. Her first outing as the Wasp came about because she needed Ant-Man's help to banish an extradimensional creature summoned by her late father.

In the lead-up to Scarlet Witch's rampage in Avengers Disassembled by Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch, Wasp was knocked into a coma by She-Hulk during her own magic-induced rampage. She was later turned into a giant bomb by the Skrulls, the explosion of which was dispersed by Thor. This seemingly killed the Wasp, until she was rescued from the Microverse by the Avengers.

4 Mockingbird Has Been On The Verge Of Death Several Times

Mockingbird Bobbi Morse

Mockingbird has had her own set of close calls, with two major instances worth noting. The first is when she was discovered to have been kidnapped by the Skrulls (at the time everyone thought that Mockingbird was dead). The New Avengers rescued her and other heroes from a Skrull ship in the Savage Land.

Later, she would be almost killed by Lady Superia and pulled from the fight by the New Avengers. Hawkeye gets the Infinity Formula from Nick Fury (the serum that gives Nick Fury is longevity and enhanced healing abilities) and used it to save Mockingbird from death. She is unhappy with this decision, as it was done without her consent and has doomed her to a life where she will likely outlive everyone she knows.

3 Hawkeye Often Needs To Be Pulled Out Of Messes He's Made

Hawkeye in his Old Costume with a Notched Arrow

Hawkeye is notorious for needing his fat pulled out of the fire. He was resurrected by Scarlet Witch after House of M (by Brian Michael Bendis and Olivier Coipel) which is in its own way the ultimate rescue.

During his own series by Matt Fraction and David Aja, Hawkeye found himself neck-deep in a conspiracy involving the "Tracksuit Dracula" gang and needed the help of Kate Bishop and his former villain brother, Barney, to survive. When he later waged a one-man war on the Hood's gang, he had to go to Count Nefaria to get a demon to save him from the Hood's own demon cloak.

2 The Winter Soldier Has Needed A Hand On Many Occasions

Winter Soldier Holding A Gun While Driving A Motorcycle

The Winter Soldier has narrowly escaped death so many times that it almost seems that Marvel likes to amp up the drama by teasing another death for Bucky Barnes. He was saved from his initial would-be death by the Soviet Union, which turned him into the Winter Soldier. He was then cleared of their programming by Captain America with a Cosmic Cube.

When he was almost killed by Sinthea Schmidt armed with an Asgardian hammer, it was Captain America and Nick Fury who narrowly saved Bucky's life again. He was almost killed by being strapped to a missile by Baron Zemo, but Namor found Bucky's body in the ocean and saved him. He was almost killed again by an Atlantean sleeper agent with his own gun, but the gun wouldn't fire properly and Bucky was saved from the ensuing head injury by naval medics.

1 Star-Lord Has Gotten In Over His Head Tons Of Times

Star-Lord on a throne

Star-Lord of the Guardians of the Galaxy is a pro at getting in over his head. On one of his earlier adventures, he was saved by the AI of his own ship from being killed by the Fallen One. He would later be saved from dying in the Cancerverse by his best friend, Nova.

He was almost executed by his own people until he was saved by Captain Marvel. He would have been killed by Gamora if it hadn't been for Doctor Strange and the Time Stone. And again, he would have met his death at the hands of the Dark Olympians too, if he hadn't been pulled into an alternate universe.
