A new piece of concept art has been unveiled from Marvel Studios' planned Hawkeye miniseries for Disney+ that also includes a fan-favorite pet from the comic books.
The artwork, shared in the Disney+ special Marvel Studios: Expanding the Universe, reveals Clint Barton training the young archer Kate Bishop to follow in his superhero footsteps. As the two fire arrows, Pizza Dog, Clint's lovable canine companion, is seen behind them.
Pizza Dog was created by Matt Fraction and David Aja during the duo's universally acclaimed run on Hawkeye, with the dog receiving an entire issue told from his perspective as he navigated Brooklyn. The loyal pet was an immediate hit with comic fans, ranking highly in CBR's own list of best comic book dogs.
It's unclear if the Marvel Cinematic Universe incarnation of the pet belongs to Clint or Kate and has the same affinity for pizza as its comic counterpart, but it's a nice nod to the source material nonetheless. Pre-production for the Disney+ miniseries is still underway, with the original program planned to have Clint take on a mentor role to Kate while reconciling with his past as Ronin.
Disney+ is now available in the U.S. Starring Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, Hawkeye is scheduled to premiere in fall 2021.
