Actor Jeremy Renner, who has starred in numerous Marvel Cinematic Films as the archer Clint Barton, has finished filming for his reprisal of the role on the upcoming Hawkeye series...but he won't say goodbye just yet.

Renner posted a selfie in a story on his Instagram, with a caption that reads, "Last day, for Now... This is not goodbye, but a see you soon." He added some appreciation for the team that saw him through the project: "Thank you cast, crew, and Marvel." The scratches on his face in the photo appear to indicate that the last scene he shot involved the aftermath of some kind of fight.

Although Renner's character is one of the MCU's six original Avengers and instantly recognized by fans as Hawkeye, the title of the series refers to both him and to another hero who will be taking up the mantle under his tutelage. Kate Bishop, who will be played by Hailee Steinfeld in the show, is expected to become Hawkeye in her own right, following the arc of her Marvel Comics counterpart.

Clint Barton might be ultimately aiming at retirement from the superhero life, but Renner's farewell message suggests that he won't be declaring an end to his time playing the character. With many future MCU projects in the works, including one which spins off of Hawkeye and stars a character who won't be introduced until it airs, there are always opportunities for Clint to return, with or without his quiver in hand.

Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner reprising his role as Clint Barton, a role he first started playing in 2011's Thor. The series is expected to follow Clint as he trains Kate Bishop to become the new Hawkeye. The show is also expected to examine Clint's time as Ronin, the superhero identity he took during the events of Avengers: Endgame.

Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Jolt as Pizza Dog/Lucky, Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Fra Fee as Kazi, Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne/Swordsman, Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo and Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez. The Disney+ series has yet to receive a premiere date.
