Skydance New Media announced that it is partnering with Marvel Games to develop the studio's first major AAA video game.

As per the press release, Skydance New Media is building a team of experienced developers and creatives from a range of disciples to tackle the project. While no details were announced, Amy Henning, President of Skydance New Media, says that the "interactive experience" will be an original story focused on one of Marvel's characters. "I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game," said Hennig. "The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love."

Henning is a veteran of the video game industry, working on some of the most beloved and well-regarding franchises of all time. She's largely recognized for her impactful roles as the creative director behind the Legacy of Kain and Uncharted series. "Amy has been setting the bar for narrative adventure games for decades and we are happy to be collaborating with the talented and experienced New Media team at Skydance," said Jay Ong, Executive Vice President & Head of Marvel Games. "Their ambition and vision for making innovative entertainment using beloved Marvel IP was obvious from our first meeting. We’re excited to share more with Marvel fans when the time is right."

While Skydance New Media begins work on its first major game, Marvel fans are spoilt for choice in the meantime. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy recently launched to positive reviews from both fans and critics alike. CBR's own Christopher Baggett wrote, "Bar none, Guardians is one the best experiences we've played this year and a serious contender for game of the year. While the game's preference to skew towards the comics iterations of the characters over the more well-known Marvel Cinematic Universe versions may put off some players, the game succeeds in making you love these versions of the characters as their own unique beings."

If you prefer something more based on Earth, you could look into Marvel's Avengers. The game recently received its largest content update yet, War for Wakanda, which was largely loved by the player-base. The game's live-service elements have earned it a fair amount of criticism, especially since the introduction of non-cosmetic microtransactions.

If neither of those scratches your fancy, you'll need to wait a while. Insomniac Games recently announced two new superhero games: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Marvel's Wolverine. Spidey is winning back onto PlayStation 5 in 2023 while Logan's game doesn't yet have a release date.
