The mobile action RPG Marvel Future Fight recently released two images of Storm to coincide with the Storm Crystal Pack, and the reactions have been strongly negative. In the first image, Storm manifests lightning as her eyes glow, and the second was a closeup image of her face, but many noticed a change in Storm's appearance. In both images, Storm has lighter skin rather than her dark skin she's been traditionally depicted as having. This has drawn ire from fans, including actor Rosario Dawson, who tweeted, "What in the whitewash were they thinking?"

It wasn’t just the color of her skin fans took issue with but Storm’s Eurocentric facial features. The Marvel Future Flight version of Storm has a small nose and thinner lips, which emphasizes a separation from her African identity. People pointed out that this version of her looks more like Charlize Theron than the mutant they know and love.

Storm hasn't been immune to unfavorable depictions in media that have caused a stir. In X-Men: Apocalypse, some were unhappy that Alexandra Shipp, a light-skinned actor, was cast as the character. It was reported that Storm could have possibly been a prison warden in The New Mutants.

As the descendant of an ancient line of African priestesses with the command of the elemental forces of weather, Storm/Ororo Munroe is one of the most powerful members of the X-Men, as well as one of the most prominent Black female superheroes in mainstream media.
