Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has gone on the record saying the Marvel Cinematic Universe will look decidedly different after the untitled Avengers 4. With stars like Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth nearing the end of their contracts, there could come a time when the mantles of Captain America and Thor are passed to a new generation of heroes.

This has happened on numerous occasions in the comics. Captain America allies the Winter Soldier and Falcon donned the red, white, and blue suit and shield, while Jane Foster is the current God of Thunder in the pages of Mighty Thor. Feige was recently asked if there ever could come a time where, like the comics, a female Thor appears in the MCU.

"We always look back to the comics to get those ideas...sometimes very specific storylines like 'Civil War,' sometimes just nuggets or characters like 'Planet Hulk,' Feige said. "So anything that's happened in the comics, even a female Thor, become great potentials and the ideas from which future movies can be born."

Jane's popularity as Thor has some fans hoping to see such a development happen in the MCU. It would allow Marvel Studios to keep its films fresh by rotating in a constant stream of different faces once actors' contracts expire.

The next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor: Ragnarok, opens Nov. 3 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.
