A new Marvel Cinematic Universe rumor claims that the reboot of Fantastic Four is casting now.According to @MyTimeToShineH on Twitter, who has been a steady source of legitimate Marvel Studios leaks in recent months, casting has now begun for Fantastic Four. The film will be Jon Watts' next movie, meaning the Spider-Man: No Way Home director will jump from one MCU project to another.RELATED: Two Pre-MCU Marvel Movies Hit Disney+

While it's been assumed that the Fantastic Four would make their MCU debut after Walt Disney Studios bought 20th Century Fox and acquired the catalog of characters, it wasn't until Dec. 2020 when the film gained Watts as director and word emerged that it would occur in the current fourth phase of the MCU. Interestingly, Ant-Man franchise director Peyton Reed has long wanted to tackle Marvel's First Family, but it seems the film studio was more interested in the man behind the latest Spider-Man trilogy.

Though the reboot has a director, it's unclear who will tackle the script and what stage the film is actually at. But if the new rumor is true, it seems things are moving forward. Going along with the rumor, another broke in Oct. 2021 that claimed Thunderbolts and Nova films are in the works. That same rumor also claimed Fantastic Four will go into production in 2023, which lines up with the movie currently seeking leads.

As for who could play the titular superheroes, plenty of actors have thrown their names into the ring. Fans have long wanted to see John Krasinki and Emily Blunt play Reed Richards and Sue Storm, but the couple has different feelings about joining the MCU. Krasinski said he's down to play Mister Fantastic, but Blunt seems uninterested in playing Invisible Woman.

Wrestler turned actor John Cena wants to play Thing, while former Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best recently said he'd love to play Reed. But given how Marvel typically picks unknown or up-and-coming actors for their franchise leads, it's possible the team will be made up of younger and lesser-known performers.

Directed by Jon Watts, Fantastic Four does not yet have a release date.
