Though she was initially introduced as "Eradikus" thanks to a glimpse at series artist Sara Pichelli's character design sheets, the Fantastic Four's new villain will actually go by a different name entirely: The Griever.

In an interview with CBR earlier this month, the writer teased that the name fans had taken to calling the mystery villain, who was seen fighting the FF on Humberto Ramos' first issue variant cover, was incorrect. "You’ve seen sketches of them online with the place holder name of Eradikus. Their name is not Eradikus," Slott told us. "That’s all I can tell you about them. You will meet them… soon. This a brand new Marvel character that you’ve never seen before, and you will find out how they fit into Marvel cosmology."

During Marvel's Next Big Thing panel at Comic-Con International, Marvel's Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski announced the character's name, as an image of her flashed by on the projector screen. But while he shared a tidbit of information about her, how exactly she's going to affect the Fantastic Four -- and potentially the rest of the Marvel Universe -- remains a secret for now.

“The Fantastic Four are exploring the universe in a new and terrifying way," Cebulski said. "They’re searching for their children -- where has Marvel’s first family been? Where are they going and what does the new terrifying foe, The Griever, hold in store for them?”

Fantastic Four #1 is written by Dan Slott with art by Sara Pichelli. The debut issue of the relaunched ongoing series also features backup stories with art by Simone Bianchi and Skottie Young. The issue is scheduled to go on sale on August 8 from Marvel.
