A huge Marvel Comics character brought to life by the legendary Stan Lee, Falcon, aka Sam Wilson, was the first African American superhero to grace the mainstream comic books. After his debut in a Captain America comic in 1969, Falcon has reached new levels with his stardom among the fans.

Although a lot of non-comic book fans know about Sam Wilson from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are still a lot of things in the comics that haven't come out in the open just yet. Among those are the true powers of Falcon, a superhero who uses mechanical wings and modern technology to fight for what's right. Here are some powers you probably didn't know Falcon has.

10 Vibranium Wings

MCU Falcon

Over the years, Falcon's wings have gone through many modifications, ranging from additions from Black Panther to Tony Stark. They have improved over time, of course, but the best modification that ever happened to them was when vibranium was added to the mix. This made them as durable as Captain America's Shield, which meant Sam Wilson could use them as weapons if he doesn't get an advantage while flying. Wilson has used the wings as weapons a lot of times in the comics.

9 Peak Human Condition

Falcon Marvel Comics

Peak human condition is a term that isn't used very frequently in the comics. The best way to define it is that this condition is the middle ground between a superhuman and a normal human. For example, Sam Wilson can bend metal rods with his bare hands, and, on top of that, his endurance for pain is absolutely incredible. He can walk around like nothing happened, even after enduring an amount of damage that would absolutely incapacitate a normal human being.

8 Martial Arts Specialist

Falcon Marvel Comics

To be completely honest, Sam Wilson is one of the best fighters in the Marvel Universe, and that's thanks to his obsession with becoming better every day. He is a master in Judo, Karate, and all sorts of other forms of Martial Arts.

He has displayed the same in the comics, going toe to toe with many superhumans without using his technological powers or wings. Being with Captain America for so many years has definitely helped him become this skilled of a fighter.

7 One Of The Best Aerial Fighters

Falcon Captain America The Winter Soldier

There are a lot of superheroes in the comics who love airborne action, be it Iron Man or Captain Marvel. Considering the plethora of talent available in the aerial department, it actually comes as a huge surprise that Sam Wilson is one of the best aerial fighters, even better than War Machine and Iron Man.

Some of the battles he has had in the comics have been outright legendary, and to be fair to him, he is one of the best in the air because he is a master fighter on the ground, something that cannot be said about Tony Stark.

6 A Proper Marksman

Anthony Mackie as Falcon

Not only is Sam Wilson a very skilled fighter in the air and on the ground, but he also shows brilliant marksmanship. While his skills in this department are not on the level of Hawkeye or Bullseye, one cannot rule out the possibility of him possibly reaching those levels with a bit of training.

Sam is a very quick learner, something that Captain America recognized about him from the get-go. Sam could easily fill in for Hawkeye in his absence.

5 Cybernetic Implant

Anthony Mackie as Falcon

This is where things get interesting. Sam Wilson has a cybernetic implant in his brain which gives him the ability to see what birds are able to see with their eyes. Effectively, Sam is able to have eyes all across the city even when he is standing on one spot. Imagine how useful this power could be to the Avengers if they want to find a supervillain who is hiding in plain sight.

4 Captain America's Shield

It's not really a surprise that Sam Wilson, in the comics, has taken up the role of Captain America in Steve Rodgers' absence, and Wilson really does an amazing job.

This is not necessarily a superpower, though it remains a very good skill to have. Wilson is as adept as Steve Rogers in using the Vibranium Captain America Shield. However, there is still a lot to learn for him if he wants to step into the shoes of one of the most powerful Avengers ever.

3 Bird Telepathy

Falcon Marvel Comics

One of the very interesting storylines that Sam Wilson was a part of in the comics was when Red Skull used the power of the cosmic cube to create a telepathic link between a real falcon, Redwing, and Sam. While the power was thought to be exclusive to one bird, Sam, for the quick learner he is, was able to use it to telepathically connect to a lot of birds. He can hear them, speak to them, and on top of that, he can access their memories.

2 A Hybrid

Captain America Sam Wilson Joaquin Torres

Another superhero in the Marvel comics who has taken up the name Falcon is Joaquin Torres, a Mexican born man who is a hybrid between a human and a Falcon thanks to the experiments of Karl Malus. This hybrid has given him a lot of abilities that Sam Wilson doesn't have, ranging from being able to have wings for arms to having some defining parts of birds in his body. On top of that, he can also convert himself into a vampire.

1 Regeneration

Falcon Marvel Comics

Obviously, Joaquin has the ability to fly and to converse with birds while sharing a telepathic link with them but the superpower that comes really handy to him is his ability to regenerate. His regenerative healing factor is so good that he once came back from the dead after having his head bitten off by Cottonmouth. Moreover, Claire Temple is the one who came up with the theory of Joaquin having incredible regenerative abilities.
