Marvel's Extermination #2 Teases the Return of a Classic X-Men Villain

The cover for Extermination #2 features Charles Xavier's time-displaced students from X-Men Blue in the grasp of the mutant-hunting villain, Ahab.

The Mark Brooks illustration has Cyclops, Iceman, Beast, Angel and Jean Grey in chains, donning the red bodysuits and markings of the Hounds, which Ahab uses to track mutants. Though the news has been scarce regarding the plot of Extermination, the story will involve the original X-Men's reluctance to travel back to the past, and its repercussions on not only the present, but also the future of Marvel Universe.

Ahab is closely associated with Rachel Grey, who now goes by the codename Prestige in X-Men Gold. Rachel comes from the Days of Future Past timeline, where she one of Ahab's Hounds. There was no word on whether Prestige would factor into the Extermination series following Ahab's return.

Marvel recently announced select X-Men titles will include Extermination post-credits scenes, which take place 20 years into the future and sees the X-Men being hunted by a swarm of Sentinels.

These prelude scenes will lead to the release of Extermination #1 by writer Ed Brisson and artist Pepe Larraz on August 15. Extermination #2, featuring the return of Ahab, goes on sale two weeks later on August 29.
