The final trailer for Eternals does a great job of showcasing the movie's characters and their super-powers. It also offers a sneak peek at the Eternals' opponents, the Deviants, including Kro, the film's main antagonist. No doubt, fans of the comics noticed that Kro looks vastly different from his comic book counterpart, potentially signaling some major changes to the Deviants and Eternals lore for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the comics, the Celestials created the Deviants as a counter to the Eternals. This leads to the two groups becoming sworn enemies over the centuries, as the Eternals want to protect humanity while the Deviants want nothing more than their enslavement. Like the Eternals, each Deviant also has an individual ability that no other can copy, with Kro being the most unique of their kind.

Kro's abilities make him greatly similar to the Eternals in that he is immortal and has immense strength. He also has complete control over his body and functions, which allows for rapid healing along with the ability to alter his appearance. Kro is also the most complicated Deviant because he shares a relationship with the Eternal Thena and must hide from his own kind, so they don't study him to learn why he's immortal.

Kro's comic counterpart appears humanoid with bright pink skin. However, in the MCU, he has green skin with red patterning and stands on the balls of his feet. He also has incredibly long arms that resemble one of the Celestials shown in the final Eternals trailer, as well as strange, long tendrils that he uses to tie Thena up. While it seems that his shapeshifting ability is intact, it looks like he uses it to alter his limbs more than his appearance, making the MCU's Kro come across as plant-like. That said, his altered look could speak to the larger differences between the MCU's Deviants and those in Marvel's comic books.

Marvel's Eternals - Celestial

Kro strongly resembles at least one Celestial, and his fellow Deviants share many of the same qualities, including Kro's tendrils and muscular build (as revealed by the dog/horse hybrid Deviant seen in the trailer). While this may simply mean that they're part of the same species, the visual parallels to the Celestials could be intentional. The Eternals have powers akin to those of Celestials, yet the Deviants apparently inherited their disproportionate bodies and plant-like designs. Combined with the MCU having referenced the Celestials as far back as the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, this could be a sign that the Celestials are going to have a bigger role to play in the MCU going forward than in the comics.

With the multiverse branching out into different realities and the Celestials already wielding the power of Gods, it makes sense that they could play a much larger role in the near future of the franchise as their reach expands to the multiverse. As such, Kro and the Deviants' new look may could imply just how prevalent the Celestials really are in the MCU. For now, it's unclear whether Kro is also different in terms of his super-power and motivation, but if these changes have any ties to the Deviants' creators, it may be a subtle tease of a much greater fight on the horizon.
