Previous reports speculated that The Eternals, the film that will kick off Marvel Studios' first major Phase Four franchise, is expected to hit cinemas around November 6, 2020 -- about five months after Black Widow's purported release date of May 1, 2020. Now, we might also have a production start date.

According to That Hashtag Show, which cited "a source with knowledge of the production," the film is expected to begin production in September 2019. At just under a year out, a September 2019 start date would put The Eternals right on track to meet the alleged November 2020 premiere target.

Directed by Chloé Zhao (The Rider, Songs My Brothers Taught Me) and written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo (Ruin), The Eternals is set to take place millions of years in the past, when the Celestials conducted genetic experiments on humans, creating the superpowered Eternals, who were intended to be the guardians of Earth. Unfortunately, however, the Celestials also gave birth to the Eternals' villainous counterparts: the Deviants.

In turn, the film will likely revolve around the inevitable and seemingly endless battle for dominance between the Eternals and the Deviants. Additionally, the Eternal known as Sersi is expected to be the film's lead, as well as be a recurring figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward.

On that note, while the reported production/release dates could potentially change, the casting process for The Eternals is expected to begin sometime in the early summer 2019. Moreover, Marvel Studios is expected to seek a particularly diverse cast for the titular heroes' big screen debut.
