The Big Sick star Kumail Nanjiani is in talks to board Marvel Studios' The Eternals.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nanjiani would star in the film alongside Angelina Jolie. Details about his role were not available at the time of writing. However, the report offers an update on Jolie's role and suggests she will play Sersi. Marvel declined to comment on the report.
Nanjiani received an Oscar nomination with his wife Emily Gordon for writing The Big Sick, in which he also starred. The prolific actor has appeared in Silicon Valley, Portlandia and The X-Files. He is also slated for Jordan Peele's The Twilight Zone revival and Men in Black: International.
The Eternals is slated to enter production later this year, though details regarding additional casting are scarce at the time. The film reportedly involves a love story between Sersi, an Eternal who enjoys the company of humans, and Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy.
Previous reports claimed Marvel Studios is looking to cast its first openly gay male lead for the upcoming 2020 film. Seeing as Eternals is set to be an ensemble film, this is still within the realm of possibility, though no additional casting news has been announced at this time.
Directed by Chloé Zhao with a screenplay by Matthew and Ryan Firpo, The Eternals is expected to be released in theaters in 2020.
