While the Eternals is set to introduce a whole new pantheon of heroes -- and a few villains -- to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one star isn't sure if they'll be back for more movies.

Kit Harington spoke to Total Film about Eternals, which will see him play comic book character Dane Whitman. On the page, Whitman becomes one of the wielders of the Ebony Blade and fights evil as the Black Knight. There's no indication if Harington will play the superhero version of the character in Eternals, but it seems safe to assume he'll eventually don the armor. But as far as the actor knows, nothing is certain.

"I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not," Harington said. "I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character. I hope. But I just don’t know, you know? I’m as in the dark as anyone else. And I try not to live too far ahead in the future with anything. Even when I was in Game of Thrones, even on the sixth season, I presumed the seventh season wasn’t going to happen!"

Harington went on to talk about how Dane is "the human character of the story," surrounded by the fantastical Eternals. In fact, he made it clear that he's very mortal in the film. "He’s not an Eternal. He’s a character who works with the Natural History Museum in London," Harington continued. "But he’s not an Eternal – that’s the main takeaway!"

Last month, Harington explained how excited he was to join the MCU and what drew him to the role.

"The character, I won't go into why he interests me, because it's more than my life is worth to tell you," Harington joked at the time. "But what did interest me about that piece was that it has Chloé Zhao directing. I met her and spoke with her and was so impressed by her. The cast was sort of phenomenal and wide-ranging and diverse. It just looked like they were doing something really different with this movie."

Black Knight has worked with the Avengers numerous times, and it's unlikely Marvel Studios would have brought in an actor like Harington to play the role if he wasn't destined to play a larger role moving forward. But until Eternals arrives on Nov. 5, fans will just have to speculate.
