Eternals VFX supervisor Stephane Ceretti might have just confirmed that Black Knight will appear in the new Blade movie.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Ceretti discussed the magical Ebony Blade and his additional supervisor who's now working on Blade. "The funny thing is my second on the show, which is MÃ¥rten Larsson my additional supervisor, is actually going to be supervising Blade very soon," Ceretti said. "So I told him, I said, 'I'm giving that to you as a gift, use it wisely and make good out of it.' But I'm sure it's going to do actually even better."

Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman in Eternals by Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao. As Sersi's boyfriend, Dane seems like an ordinary civilian at first, but it's revealed he has a mysterious family history as the story progresses. Sersi tells him to look deeper into it and in the second post-credit scene for Eternals, Dane ponders opening an old wooden box. When he finally summons the courage to do so, audiences see the magic of the Ebony Blade. As Dane reaches out to touch it, the voice of Mahershala Ali's Blade says, "Sure you’re ready for that, Mr. Whitman?"

Although it hasn't been officially confirmed, the Ebony Blade, and consequently the Black Knight, could have a significant role in Blade. The setup between Blade and Black Knight in Eternals and the heightened status given to this magical weapon points to its importance and an eventual continuation of this storyline.

"I showed Chloé [Zhao] these ferromagnetic fluids and things like that," Ceretti continued. "And it's like these little pieces of metal that you bring a magnet, and they start to all align in a way. Actually, that effect was my idea that we should have the feeling that as he's getting his finger close to it, the blade almost wants to suck him in. 'I'm talking to you, and you're going to be mine.'"

At an Eternals press conference, Harington discussed Dane Whitman's role in the movie despite his limited appearance, stating that he represents humanity and that he's a standup guy. He doesn't know what Marvel Studios has in mind for Black Knight in the future, but he's read up on the character and knows there's a possibility for a longer trajectory. Based on the character's storied history, Black Knight could have a dark road ahead of him in the MCU.

Directed by Bassam Tariq from a script by Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Marvel Studios' Blade does not currently have an official release date. Production is expected to begin next summer.
