As Season 1 of The Mandalorian nears its end, a new rumor claims Lucasfilm has partnered with Marvel Entertainment to develop a secret Star Wars television project for Disney+.
According to Making Star Wars editor Jason Ward, Lucasfilm and Marvel Entertainment are secretly about to start principal photography on a television series starring comic book character Doctor Aphra, with plans to premiere it on Disney+ at an undetermined date. This corresponds with a similar rumor from last month, surrounding a potential television project starring the comic book character.
"A new Star Wars show is starting about now that nobody even knows about,” Ward told Inverse. "I’m hearing it’s a Lucasfilm-Marvel venture with both companies teaming up to bring a Star Wars show to the small screen."
Aphra was created in 2015's Star Wars: Darth Vader #3 by Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca, which was set in the time period between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. A criminal archaeologist and the franchise's first queer woman of color, Aphra worked alongside Vader before narrowly escaping with her life. She was partnered with two murderous droids and pulled heists across the galaxy.
While Ward did not provide evidence of the claim, Making Star Wars has broken viable news regarding the space opera franchise before, including The Mandalorian's exploration of Yoda's species.
