Marvel and Disney announced a new theatrical date for The New Mutants. The much-delayed Fox film will now land in theaters on Aug. 28.

The New Mutants has the unique distinction of having four previous release dates. It was initially set to debut on April 13, 2018. The New Mutants was then pushed to Feb. 22, 2019, followed by Aug. 2, 2019 and April 3 of this year. Reasons for the delays range from reshoots to lean into the film's horror to Fox being purchased by Disney.

After coronavirus (COVID-19) caused the closing of movie theaters worldwide, Disney removed The New Mutants from its April 3 release date. Then, as Disney started announcing new dates for its Phase 4 slate of Marvel Cinematic Universe films, a formal announcement was not made for The New Mutants.

Earlier this month, a pre-order link for The New Mutants appeared on Amazon. However, the online retailer quickly removed the link, even though it is still available for pre-order in the United Kingdom.

Directed and co-written by Josh Boone, The New Mutants stars Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes. The film arrives in theaters Aug. 28.
