Marvel's upcoming relaunch of Black Panther by John Ridley and Juann Cabal is now delayed by three months.

According to Newsarama, Marvel told retailers Black Panther #1, originally scheduled to release on Aug. 4, is being delayed until Nov. 3. This pushes the release of the second issue to Dec. 1. The publisher did not provide a reason for the delay in the series relaunch.

Marvel announced John Ridley and Juann Cabal as the new Black Panther creative team in May. "It's a hybrid espionage-superhero thriller, but at its core, it's a love story," Ridley said when the series was announced. "And I don't mean just romantic love, although there's some of that as well. It's love between friends."

He added, "We're coming out of a summer where we saw Black people fighting for our rights, standing up, fighting in ways that we haven’t had to do in years. And it was really important to me after the year we had where we can have these conversations with Black people and we can use words like love and caring and hope and regret and all these really fundamental emotions that everybody has."

Writer Ta-Nehisi Coates ended his multi-year run on Black Panther with the title's 25th issue in May. While Black Panther marks Ridley's first ongoing Marvel series -- he also collaborated with Jorge Fornés for Wolverine: Black, White & Blood #3 -- the filmmaker is also one of the writers for DC's Batman family of titles, and also penned The Other History of the DC Universe. The comic looked back at various events from DC's history involving its characters of color such as Black Lightning, Katana, Bumblebee and Mal Duncan.
