Immortal Hulk: The Best Defense will be written by Al Ewing and illustrated by Simone Di Meo; Namor: The Best Defense will be written by Chip Zdarsky and illustrated by Carlos Magno; Doctor Strange: The Best Defense will have the creative team of writer Gerry Duggan and artist Greg Smallwood; Silver Surfer: The Best Defense will be written and illustrated by Jason Latour; and The Defenders: The Best Defense reunites The Immortal Hulk creative team of Ewing and artist Joe Bennet.

Marvel recently relaunched The Defenders as a street-level team of Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, following the Netflix series of the same name.

The publisher has dropped clues that a revival of the original Defenders is in the works. In Marvel’s October 2018 solicitations, Avengers #9 and The Immortal Hulk #7 see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes clash with a founding Defender. Avengers #9 takes the team to Atlantis to stop a civil war, with the issues debuting a new costume for the Sub Mariner, while The Immortal Hulk #7 has the Avengers looking to apprehend Bruce Banner’s new immortal alter-ego.
