Marvel Debuts First "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" Trailer

The first teaser trailer for "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" has arrived, giving fans their longest look to date at the latest Marvel Studios production.

Coming in at just under two-and-a-half minutes, the trailer focuses on both the philosophical struggle between Captain America (Chris Evans) and S.H.I.E.L.D. -- represented by Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) -- plus his physical battle with the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), who features heavily in the trailer's final segments. The clip also showcases a major supporting role for Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, and shows The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) in flight. Much of the trailer's footage was originally shown earlier this year at Comic-Con International in San Diego and Disney's D23 Expo.

Marvel's official plot synopsis reads, "After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel's 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' finds Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy -- the Winter Soldier."

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" stars Marvel Cinematic Universe veterans Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Cobie Smulders, Haley Atwell, Toby Jones and Max Hernandez, along with newcomers Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre and Robert Redford. It opens April 4, 2014.
