These days, superheroes control the tentpoll movie season for most Hollywood studios, but comic publishers play their summer event series like big budget blockbusters too. And that holds very true for artist Marko Djurdjevic's new variant cover for Marvel Comics "Infinity" #1.

Showed briefly this weekend at the C2E2 Diamond Retailer Summit, the cover for the Jonathan Hickman-written series is a mix of Djurdjevic's established painting style and Drew Struzan-style movie posters.

Aside from Avengers leader Captain America, cosmic villain Thanos and new Avengers foe Ex Nihilo, the cover also includes a number of new elements that tease the shape of the story including the recently revived Starbrand and a role for the Hulk in his new timestream-powered armor.

"Infinity" teams Hickman with artist Jim Cheung as well as past collaborators Jerome Opena and Dustin Weaver. The book launches of Free Comic Book Day with a special preview issue before moving into its own limited series with a number of tie-ins in the Avengers titles in August.

Stay tuned to CBR News for more on the series as it becomes available.
