The Hulk is one of the most popular characters of all time in the Marvel Universe. Over the years there have been many different incarnations of the Jade Giant. Sometimes he's savage and sometimes he's intelligent. Currently he's immortal. But one thing that's always consistent is that the madder Hulk gets the stronger he gets, and that the Hulk is the strongest one there is...or is he?

If the Hulk ever made his way over to the DC Universe, he'd become an instant target for some of the most powerful villains imaginable. Some would want him out of the way because of the threat he poses, while others would want to test their might against "the strongest there is," so here is a look at five DC villains the Hulk could defeat as well as five that he would lose to.

10 COULD DEFEAT: Mongul

Mongul is one of the strongest DC villains there is, having faced off with the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern. Mongul is famously known for nearly defeating Superman - not in a physical fight, but through the use of the Black Mercy plant in the Alan Moore Superman story For The Man Who Has Everything.

While Mongul's might is truly incredible, so is the Hulk's. If anything, Mongul's strength would serve to enrage the Hulk, and ultimately Mongul wouldn't have an answer for a foe who only gets stronger as the fight goes on.

9 WOULD LOSE TO: Trigon

trigon

While Trigon is primarily a villain of the Teen Titans, he poses a significant threat to the entire DC Universe at large. The father of the hero Raven, the demonic Trigon has destroyed planets, conquered dimensions, and drained the souls of entire universes.

The Hulk could get as mad as he wants, but against someone of Trigon's power it wouldn't matter. His ability to manipulate reality alone could take out the Hulk in a matter of seconds.

8 COULD DEFEAT: Doomsday

Doomsday is the ultimate killing machine. If you need any proof of that, look no further than the fact that he killed Superman. He shares many traits with the savage Hulk and as a result, this is a fight that fans have long been clamoring for.

For a more detailed breakdown of a Doomsday versus Hulk fight see here, but in a similar manner to the Mongul fight, the Hulk would win due to his strength continuing to rise as his rage reaches some of the highest levels it's ever been measured at.

7 WOULD LOSE TO: Imperiex

While the Hulk would most likely be able to defeat Doomsday, it would be one of the most difficult fights the Hulk has ever been in. Imperiex, meanwhile, took out Doomsday with a single blast. And by "took out," Imperiex didn't just knock Doomsday out - he vaporized him.

A cosmic powered being of the highest order, Imperiex is powered by the Big Bang itself. It's rare for the Hulk to ever be overpowered by a foe, but that would be the case with Imperiex. He could take Hulk out the same way he did Doomsday or eliminate him with a black hole of his creation.

6 COULD DEFEAT: Sinestro

Sinestro

Wielding the yellow power ring of fear, Sinestro is rightly one of the most feared individuals in the DC Universe. Leader of the Sinestro Corps, Sinestro's might is also accompanied by one of the most indomitable wills in all of existence.

Even with Sinestro's considerable will, he would have trouble making any sort of construct that could contain the Hulk. Thanks to the amount of time Sinestro has had his ring, he has an innate connection to the fears of others. In most cases that can win him nearly any fight, but unleashing the Hulk's greatest fears would only serve to increase Hulk's anger, and ultimately would lead to his downfall.

5 WOULD LOSE TO: Anti-Monitor

Anti-Monitor from DC Comics.

The Anti-Monitor is perhaps the most powerful villain in the DC Universe. He brought an end to the DC Multiverse during Crisis On Infinite Earths, destroying a countless number of worlds - and universes - in the process.

As if Anti-Monitor's own power wasn't enough, he has the ability to absorb the energies of his surroundings into himself. He could absorb the Hulk's gamma radiation to further fuel his already impressive might and crush Hulk with it, or simply use the considerable might he already has to defeat the Hulk.

4 COULD DEFEAT: Solomon Grundy

The zombie Solomon Grundy is one of the oldest villains of the DC Universe. Part of the reason for that is because if he dies, he comes back. Each incarnation is different than the last and each has varying levels of strength. At his strongest, Grundy has been able to go toe to toe with Superman.

Because Grundy's strength fluctuates depending on the incarnation, the Hulk would win in a fight between the two. At his strongest, he could definitely give the Hulk a run for his money, but any version that isn't at its pinnacle of strength the Hulk would rip apart.

3 WOULD LOSE TO: Atrocitus

Atrocitus

Atrocitus is the leader of the Red Lantern Corps, a corps powered by rage. As the founder of the Red Lanterns, Atrocitus has an incomparable mastery of his ring and is a severe threat to anyone that dares oppose him.

In a fight against the Hulk, Atrocitus is the rare opponent who would benefit from the Hulk's anger. The rage plasma Atrocitus uses as a weapon would do significant damage to the Hulk as it burns even in space and can burn through the energy aura of whoever it's used against. As the Hulk gets madder Atrocitus would actually get stronger as the red ring can absorb and re-release rage energy. And Atrocitus can connect to the source of one's rage, which may lead Atrocitus to extend an offer to the Hulk to join the Red Lanterns.

2 COULD DEFEAT: General Zod

General Zod in Action Comics #981

The megalomaniacal General Zod is a ruthless tyrant with the powers of Superman. As if that weren't enough, Zod is also a brilliant military tactician, which makes him even more deadly.

Zod's undoing against the Hulk would be due to the fact that the General hasn't had the same amount of exposure to Earth's yellow sun as Superman has. While Zod has many other powers at his disposal, the Hulk is just plain stronger than Zod and that's a disadvantage Zod ultimately wouldn't be able to overcome.

1 WOULD LOSE TO: Darkseid

darkseid

Darkseid is the ruler of Apokolips and arguably the greatest threat to the DC Universe. There are plenty of reasons he and Thanos are spoken of in the same vein, chief among them the danger they pose not just to Earth, but the entire cosmos as well.

While the Hulk's immense strength gives him as good a chance as anyone against Darkseid, Darkseid's Omega Beams would be the deciding factor. The Hulk may survive a blast or two from them, but the more he's hit with them the more of a toll they'll take. And if Darkseid grows tired of the battle, Darkseid can simply use the Beams to displace the Hulk in the timestream, as he did to Batman during Final Crisis.
