Mr. Fantastic and Plastic Man are such starkly different characters that the only thing uniting them is their uncanny ability to stretch and contort their bodies. One hails from Marvel, while the other is from DC. One is married, and the other is single. One is distinguished, whereas the other is closely scrutinized by his associates.

These dramatic differences beg the question of who would win in a fight. Each hero brings unique advantages to the battle, though the sum of their strengths, weaknesses, and resources are ultimately not equivalent.

10 Strength - Plastic Man

Given their pliable bodies, one might assume neither of these men have much in the way of physical brawn. However, through carefully utilizing their elasticity, both are powerful enough to contend with their universe's heavy hitters.

Reed's greatest feat in the way of strength is staggering a giant and temporarily debilitating them. However, Plastic Man managed to overpower Black Manta, Aquaman's sworn enemy — while underwater. Given the feats Aquaman is capable of and the threat Manta poses to him, it's safe to assume Plastic Man wins in raw striking power.

9 Intelligence - Mr. Fantastic

Though it may not come as a surprise to most, Mr. Fantastic is much more intelligent to Plastic Man, and the imbalance is easily the most jarring between the two.

Plastic Man's intelligence is hardly impressive even for an average person, though Reed's mind rivals that of Tony Stark and Shuri. He is responsible for the Four's technology, has invented a spacecraft, and regularly matches wits with Victor Von Doom (who in turn is smart enough to reprogram Ultron into obeying him).

8 Villains - Mr. Fantastic

When comparing heroes, it's prudent to measure their villains because they're symbolic of the challenges each have overcome. One of Plastic Man's most recognizable villains is Granite Lady, who has commendable durability that makes her a force to be reckoned with.

However, her feats are drastically overshadowed by Victor Von Doom's. Dr. Doom is an inherently more dangerous villain because he was designed to be defeated by four heroes instead of one (though often more). He's so deadly that Thanos himself had him under surveillance since he perceived him as a serious threat to the Mad Titan's plans.

7 Durability - Plastic Man

Plastic Man

Due to their elastic bodies, both men can sustain a surprising amount of abuse, especially when it comes to blunt objects. Mr. Fantastic has soaked direct punches from the Thing, while Plastic Man survived being directly shot through the head (with very little inconvenience).

Their defining difference arises from their weaknesses, and moreover, Plastic Man's lack thereof. While Mr. Fantastic is vulnerable to usual threats against rubber (such as being frozen, burnt, ripped, etc), Plastic Man does not share these inhibitions, making for an infuriatingly immortal opponent. That isn't to say he can't be incapacitated while he's mending, but he can heal from attacks Fantastic might not.

6 Allies - Mr. Fantastic

A glaring advantage Mr. Fantastic holds over Plastic Man is his immediate availability of allies. Though it's true that Plastic Man is a formal member of the Justice League whereas Mr. Fantastic only assists the Avengers on occasion, Plastic's reputation among them is not enough to invoke their aid — especially if he tells them he's out to fight other superheroes.

More importantly, Mr. Fantastic is accustomed to fighting with his team, while Plastic Man is a former criminal who is still distrusted by some hero circles.

5 Speed - Plastic Man

The elasticity of the men's bodies allow themselves to tighten and loosen like rubber bands, bestowing speed otherwise impossible to average people. Mr. Fantastic has demonstrated adequate enough speed to save his allies and himself from certain harm, which adequately suits him as a hero.

However, Plastic Man's speed is so great that he managed to pin down the Flash, incapacitating him before he could vibrate his way free or otherwise react with his legendarily quick reflexes. Given Flash's other feats, Plastic Man scores a robustly decisive victory.

4 Gear - Mr. Fantastic

Mr. Fantastic's unique suit is much like those of his team. It accommodates his power, providing moderate protection and exceptional resistance to electrical assaults. Though it may not an Iron Man suit, it provides a clear purpose without debilitating his mobility.

Conversely, Plastic Man wears nothing. The outfit he is depicted with is merely him contorting his plastic to appear that he is wearing clothing. Fortunately, his outstanding durability grants him leeway in this deficiency, but his "costume" is nonetheless as useless as it is disturbing.

3 Versatility - Plastic Man

Though both men can stretch their limbs comparatively well, Plastic Man's bizarre transformations cannot be matched. He can use them in combat to become varying shapes and is even able to shrink himself to fit in Batman's belt.

However, he can also transform his body to look like different people and is a magnificently talented impressionist. He fooled the Legion of Doom into thinking he was the Joker for a time, a difficult stunt to pull given the Clown Prince's erratic, unpredictable personality. If he executes his plan correctly, it's possible that he could become Mr. Fantastic and convince Reed's friends that he is a Skrull.

2 Fighting Skills - Mr. Fantastic

Mr Fantastic Contortion

Though Plastic Man has the advantage in the potency of his power, it's equally important to measure how capable one is in a direct fight. Plastic Man's background as a thief gives him a slight advantage, though it's one which pales in comparison to Fantastic's.

Mr. Fantastic's intelligence gives him an edge in martial combat. He can and has utilized his opponents' pressure points against them, strategically striking and withdrawing with his long limbs for quick incapacitation. Though Plastic Man is creative in his powers, he often misses practical solutions to grave threats.

1 Conclusion - Plastic Man

Reed's intelligence gives him a needed edge over Plastic Man, but it is ultimately not enough to compensate for his opponent's peerless flexibility and durability. Though Plastic Man may not be as intelligent as Mr. Fantastic, he isn't stupid and would quickly discover one of Reed's many exploitable weaknesses.

The advantages Richards has may work against his own opponents (such as his electrically resistant suit) but in this fight, they are next to worthless. Therefore, Plastic Man stretches past the finish line as the greatest contortionist to zip their way onto comics everywhere.
