Charlie Cox was aware of Daredevil's introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years, according to his Defenders co-star Jessica Henwick.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Henwick discussed her decision to choose between keeping her role as Iron Fist's Colleen Wing or becoming Xialing in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. She also revealed just how long Cox was aware of Daredevil's return to the MCU. "If I did [Shang-Chi], I would effectively be putting Colleen to bed. It wasn't the main factor, but it definitely came up in conversation," Henwick said. "I love Colleen. She changed my life. Of course, if I was given the opportunity to revisit her, I would, but I just don't know how likely that is. Charlie [Cox] knew about that opportunity years ago. He already knew it was happening. I think I would have heard by now if there were any plans with Colleen."

Daredevil was one of several Netflix-produced Marvel series to have been canceled back in 2018. Following an outpouring of support through fan campaigns such as #SaveDaredevil, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed Cox will reprise his role as The Man Without Fear in future MCU projects. Actor Vincent D'Onofrio, who played the crime boss Kingpin in Netflix's Daredevil, congratulated Cox on keeping his role, tweeting earlier this month, "So happy for Charlie Cox he really deserves this. He's a great actor and a wonderful guy. He put so much into playing Daredevil in such a unique way. Love this news."

Running for three 13-episode seasons, Daredevil follows blind lawyer Matt Murdock whose heightened senses allow him to become the vigilante known as Daredevil. All three seasons were generally well-received by critics, who praised its exciting action scenes, attention to detail and gritty portrayal of a street-level superhero. Critics praised D'Onofrio's performance in particular, with the actor having recently reprised his role as New York's Kingpin of crime in the final episode of Hawkeye on Disney+.

Cox's official return to the MCU fed into rumors of a rebooted Daredevil series from Marvel Studios. As such, with D'Onofrio already back as the Kingpin, fans are hoping to see actors Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson reprise their respective roles as Karen Page and Franklin "Foggy" Nelson as well.

All three seasons of Daredevil are currently available to stream on Netflix.
