Marvel has a rich history with their character designs. Not only were they willing to buck the trends of what made standard superheroes at the time, but they continuously introduced new and unique designs for them. This led to the creation of some of the most iconic superhero outfits in the entire industry (you probably know which ones they are at this point, so we won't list them). Going into the MCU, it's this sort of iconography that is perfect for the big screen. It pleases the older fans of the characters while making newer audience members understand why they're so beloved in the first place. Everything from Captain America's war-torn outfit to the countless variations of Iron Man and the classic yet modern Spider-Man is all on point. They all do a great job of making the pages come to life in new ways.

For the future MCU films, there are still plenty of costumes and alternate takes Marvel can choose from. That said, some are much better-looking than others, and would lend themselves to the big screen more than others. We know that costumes aren't always adapted on a 1:1 scale, but they do come close -- especially in the MCU. With that said, we'll get into ten Marvel costumes we would like to see in the MCU and ten costumes we'd rather not. This list will only qualify for characters that have already appeared in an MCU film or show and will be appearing in future projects. No X-Men will be on this list.

20 WANT: ROYAL BLACK PANTHER

Black Panther has a great design in the MCU. His Vibranium armor is sleek, colorful, and looks deadly. With slight variations for each of his appearances, he's becoming one of Marvel's more iconic and well-designed characters. Now that he's the official King of Wakanda, though, we might get a more visual representation of that going forward.

The one design piece that's been missing from Black Panther is his cape. As he embraces his role as King, we would love to see him sport the the accessory, perhaps with a more noticeable necklace. That would require a few other tweaks to his current look, though.

19 DON'T WANT: ANYTHING INSPIRED FROM THE '90S

Thunderstrike

The MCU rarely adapts any costume inch by inch from the comics. Instead, they take inspiration from the designs and pick apart the pieces they like while adding a few new points for good measure. If there's one era of costumes we don't want to see them inspired by, it's the '90s.

Back when everything had to be "edgy," comics came up with some of the worst costumes known to man. Doctor Strange became a weird emo teen, Tony Stark was a teenager, and Thor was replaced with a gruff metalhead. This never needs to be on the big screen, Marvel.

18 WANT: FUTURE FOUNDATION SPIDER-MAN

While Spider-Man is currently a cloud of dust as of Avengers: Infinity War, we already know he's coming back and will go on to star in another solo movie. However, he's going to be quite a different young man after Thanos has his time on Earth. It's possible that he could have a change of perspective or even shift his character drastically if Tony Stark meets his end.

Because of this, it would be a great time to introduce the Future Foundation suit. Bringing together the white suit would be a first on the big screen. It could look awesome as well as be a potential memorial for Stark.

17 DON'T WANT: NOMAD

The Nomad arc for Captain America was a huge one. He spent all his time fighting to protect the country he loved only to get stabbed in the back by it decades later. Going off on his own, he ditched the name of Captain America and called himself Nomad. This arc has already somewhat been picked up by the MCU.

While the arc does a lot for his character, we would hate to see the MCU try to adapt the costume. Not only did it look ridiculous with the open torso and weird mask, but most readers couldn't even tell that it was still Steve Rogers.

16 WANT: SPACE COP STAR-LORD

Star-Lord went through a massive design and personality change for his introduction into the MCU. Now that he's lost Gamora, both of his parents, and been turned to dust, though, it's likely that he'll never be the same childish character he once was.

Fully accepting his responsibility as the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, it would be a great time to introduce his space cop look. Give him a more formal uniform that would symbolize his maturity. It would also allow for the MCU to let the Guardians use the Ravager logo as a tribute to Yondu.

15 DON'T WANT: DAREDEVIL YELLOW

The yellow Daredevil suit was a fairly ridiculous one, though Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale made a solid case as to why it was important to the legacy of the character. Regardless of how well it was applied in the comics at times, there's no denying that it would look kind of silly on-screen.

Daredevil already has a great suit that could see some revisions in the coming season of Daredevil, but the yellow one is certainly not the way to go. Luke Cage is already the Defender associated with the color yellow, so it would feel odd to have another character attached to it as well.

14 WANT: ULTIMATE HAWKEYE

Hawkeye hasn't received the best treatment in either the comics or the MCU. After all, he was completely omitted from Avengers: Infinity War. However, it's all but officially confirmed that he and a few other characters will return in Avengers 4 to help the remaining heroes defeat Thanos. It's also been rumored that Hawkeye would be getting a design change.

One route they could go is to use Hawkeye's Ultimate costume. Not only was it a much sleeker look, but the mask and goggles go a long way to make him stand out from the rest of the Avengers. While it could be seen as too similar to Star-Lord's outfit, we think it could work nonetheless.

13 DON'T WANT: CLASSIC ANT-MAN

Going into the Ant-Man movie, Marvel knew they would have to give the character a noticeable redesign that would make him seem cooler than his name would suggest. They succeeded fairly well, giving the Ant-Man suit a technological feel while still making it look sleek. Everything from the wide red lenses and the closed off helmet blended together nicely.

However, Scott Lang's suit has changed in his subsequent appearances, so it makes sense that it would change again in the future. However, the classic Ant-Man look is not what we want them to use. It's goofy, and has one of the most awkward-looking helmets in comic history.

12 WANT: MASSIVE GROOT

Groot with Rocket Racoon On his Arm

Groot, for the most part, was an accurate translation from the comics into the MCU, complete with being able to say only three words. However, he was designed to look much friendlier and kind-hearted than the comic version would lead you to believe.

Considering that the original Groot was offed by Ronan and is currently being reborn, we'd imagine that the adult version would look different than in Guardians of the Galaxy. We would like to see the MCU go with the more massive and threatening look as shown in the comics, with branches extending out and spores visible on his body.

11 DON'T WANT: TEENAGE IRON MAN

Iron Man Teen Tony Stark

There was an arc in the comics where Tony Stark started to lose his mind a bit. Because of this, the Avengers decided to go back in time and pull Stark from the timeline as a teenager and recruit him to the team. Taking the name Iron Boy, he was a clear example of how not to change a character.

It's likely that Tony Stark will meet his end in the MCU. If that happens, we would rather it stay that way than Marvel try to soften the blow by introducing a younger version. The biggest reason we don't want to see this, though, is because the suit is downright atrocious. It tries to be a newer version of the classic suit, but it just ends up feeling like a cheaper one.

10 WANT: BLACK SUIT SPIDER-MAN

Spider-Man leaps into battle wearing a new symbiote suit in Venomized

One of the most iconic Spider-Man suits has only appeared on the big screen once, and it was a massive disappointment to fans everywhere. Peter Parker dealing with his new power curve and unbridled rage as a result of the symbiote attaching to his costume has been a powerful story that we would like to see done well on the big screen.

While it's unlikely that this would happen anytime soon, there's still a chance that we could see MCU Peter Parker don the black suit down the road. As long as it leads to a fight with Venom, we don't care.

9 DON'T WANT: FALCON CAPTAIN AMERICA

Sam Wilson Captain America and shield

With the "All-New All-Different" relaunch, it turned out that Steve Rogers' age was catching up to him, and he was no longer able to be the Star Spangled Avenger. That left the mantle to Sam Wilson, the Falcon. He became the new Captain America and sported a new costume to boot.

However, with Cap likely departing from the MCU after Avengers 4, it's possible that Sam could take up the shield himself. If this happens, we desperately want there to be a better costume than the over-designed, blue and silver monstrosity with wings that is in the comics. Besides, Bucky would probably (and unfortunately) be next in line for the mantle.

8 WANT: DAREDEVIL BLACK

Daredevil, as opposed to other Marvel heroes, doesn't lend himself as well to re-designs. After all, there isn't a whole lot you can do with a devil-inspired outfit without straying too much and making it look weird. However, there was one look we think could work in season three of Daredevil -- the black costume.

Matt Murdock "gave his life" for Hell's Kitchen in The Defenders, so he'll likely undergo some changes in perspective when he starts to actually live again. This could be portrayed with a new, primarily black costume, as seen in "All-New All-Different Daredevil." The director would have to play with the lighting for it to work, though.

7 DON'T WANT: CLASSIC HAWKEYE

Hawkeye-holds-Captain-America-shield

Hawkeye is one of the characters that has had a lot of redesigns over the years. While his '90s suit probably remains one of his worst, it at least has almost no hope of ever getting close to the MCU. The one that might appear on-screen, though, is his classic design.

Classic Hawkeye has a bright purple and had a goofy pronged mask and some similarly ridiculous archery gear. Because the MCU loves to pay respects to the source material, there is a slight chance that this one could make an appearance. However, it would make an already bland character downright laughable. Don't do that to him, Marvel.

6 WANT: HOODED GAMORA

Gamora, like a few other Guardians of the Galaxy, received a significant design change. Sporting a slimmer, tougher look than her comic counterpart, all of this will probably change if she returns. After being thrown off of a cliff by Thanos and having to inevitably fight for her life against him, it's possible that if she returns from the grave, she could get a significant costume change.

If there were one costume that we'd like to see Gamora sport in the MCU, it would be her hooded design. Complete with the yellow eye makeup, it could go a long way to show how Gamora has finally distanced herself from the legacy of her father.

5 DON'T WANT: HEADBAND LUKE CAGE

Luke Cage has gone through several changes himself. Going into the Luke Cage TV show, Marvel had to change a few things, particularly his design. While he still often wears a yellow T-shirt, he doesn't have a few of the traits that were in his original design.

Luke Cage, as he was portrayed in the comics, had a goofy headband with a weird afro and a shirt that showed off a significant amount of chest. It was clearly a look of older times. If Marvel decides to homage this suit, they should do it more in easter eggs and never actually poor Mike Colter wear any variation of that costume.

4 WANT: RONIN

Hawkeye seems to be getting a pretty significant costume change in time for Avengers 4. While we're not clear how he'll make his return or in what form, a lot of sources seem to point to him taking the Ronin mantle. If he's going to make this change in name, we'd like him to make the change in design as well.

Ronin has one of the coolest looks for any Avenger. He looks like a warrior ninja, complete with black full-body suit and yellow trim. Combine that with a sleek bow and arrow, and it would be a design that immediately captures the audience's attention on the big screen.

3 DON'T WANT: MR. FIXIT HULK

Mr Fixit Hulk

Without any solo movies to drive the character forward, Hulk is more reliant on being a supporting character in MCU movies to further his story, and Thor: Ragnarok might've been his best appearance to date. In time for Avengers 4, it seems that the green giant will be finishing up an arc that will see him make a change in design.

If there's one costume we don't ever want to see, though, it's the Mr. Fixit Hulk. Seeing Hulk in a pinstripe suit and fedora just looks off. It might work in the comics, but that doesn't mean it would translate on film. Thankfully, it's rumored that Hulk will be sporting a S.H.I.E.L.D. costume for the upcoming movie.

2 WANT: ENDO-SYM ARMOR

Iron Man has reached his lowest point as of Avengers: Infinity War. Due to the Mad Titan, even his groundbreaking nano-tech armor has all but been blown to bits. Going into Avengers 4, it's clear that Stark will need an upgrade for the final confrontation.

The suit that we would like to see is the Endo-Sym Armor. While they wouldn't be able to use the symbiote due to those rights staying with Sony, it's more than plausible for the MCU to do a version of the suit. Furthermore, having a white/silver suit of armor would be great to symbolize Tony's greatest moment being one where he has become a pure hero.

1 DON'T WANT: ARMORED AVENGERS

If you're wondering why Tony Stark doesn't make armored suits for all of the Avengers, we would point you to the comics, where he already tried it. A few of the Avengers were given suits of armor, like Captain America, while Daredevil armored up all by himself. While it made sense on a practical level, those costumes were atrocious.

If Marvel decided to bring that into the MCU, not only would it look bad, but it would also detract from what makes each character special. People like the Guardians and Captain America don't need the armor-- it would just feel cheap if everyone suddenly had Iron Man's suit.
