Marvel has confirmed on their website that Peyton Reed will direct the “Ant-Man” film, replacing Edgar Wright.
In addition, Marvel announced that Adam McKay (“Anchorman,” “The Other Guys”) will contribute to the script.
Reed’s resume includes the comedies “Yes Man,” “Down with Love” and “The Break-Up.” He’s also directing the adaptation of “The Fifth Beatle,” the graphic novel by Vivek Tiwary, Andrew C. Robinson and Kyle Baker.
Several sites, including The Hollywood Reporter and TheWrap, had listed Reed as a frontrunner for the job among a long list of potential replacements. McKay was on that list until May 31, when he tweeted that he had met with Marvel but no deal was reached.
“And yes, met w/Marvel. Kirby & Lee r my Lennon Mccartney so it was awesome. But have other projects I’m committed to. Not sure it can work,” he said at the time.
With Paul Rudd starring as Scott Lang and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, “Ant-Man” is scheduled to arrive in theaters July 17, 2015. The synopsis on Marvel.com reads:
“Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.”
