Marvel Confirms New Deathlok Ongoing, No Creative Team Announced

CBR has confirmed with Marvel Comics that it has plans for a Deathlok ongoing, spinning out of the “Original Sins” short story, which will serve as a “pilot episode” reintroduction to Michael Collins and his whereabouts since his last Marvel Universe appearance. However, despite reports that “Original Sins” writers Nathan Edmondson and Mike Perkins are helming the title, neither a creative team nor release date has been set for the series.

During a press call about Marvel’s “Original Sins” limited series, editor-in-chief Axel Alonso and executive editor Tom Brevoort implied that Deathlok would feature in one of the four or five ongoing series launching in the wake of the publisher’s “Original Sin” event — characterizing the idea of a “Deathlok” ongoing as “likely” with “every expectation” of publication — stopping just short of announcing the title. The “Original Sins” miniseries, which will cover a number of shorter tales by numerous creative teams across its five issues, contains a Deathlok story by Nathan Edmondson and Mike Perkins.

The Michael Collins version of Deathlok was last seen in 2007, after returning to Earth with the Fantastic Four and Gravity. Collins, originally a computer programmer working for Roxxon Oil, was able to overcome the original programming of the Deathlok robot and managed to install a no-killing parameter. However, Collins always phrases his order to the computer with care to be sure that he not only fulfills a mission, but also keeps people from dying.

Another version of Deathlok, as played by J. August Richards, has recently been making strides on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” playing a major role in the series’ current arc.

“Original Sins” hits stores in June.
