Marvel.com has confirmed that Krysten Ritter has been cast in the lead role of "A.K.A. Jessica Jones." The official confirmation follows recent reports that Ritter had landed the lead role in the Marvel/Netflix collaboration.

"Krysten brings both the hard edge and the vulnerability the role demands," Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg told Marvel.com. "We can't wait for fans to see her in action, coming to Netflix in 2015."

"Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes," said Marvel Television Head Jeph Loeb. "As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more."

Previous reports of Ritter's casting also placed Mike Colter as the top candidate for Luke Cage -- slated to headline his own subsequent Netflix series -- though that has not been confirmed by Marvel.

The official name of the Marvel/Netflix series, "A.K.A. Jessica Jones," was also the name of a series intended for air on ABC as far back as 2011. The ABC incarnation of "A.K.A. Jessica Jones" was also headed up by Rosenberg, who called the character "an incredibly damaged, dark, complex female character that kicks ass."
