Miles Morales is set to headline his own standalone video game for Sony's upcoming next-generation console, the PlayStation 5. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be the follow-up to 2018's record-setting Marvel's Spider-Man as Peter Parker passes his web-shooters to Miles, who had a supporting role in the original PlayStation 4 game. The Sony PS5 event revealed Spider-Man: Miles Morales with an announcement trailer that showed off the young Spidey's powerset and costume, which mirrors his comic book counterpart.
Fans anxiously awaiting the arrival of Spider-Man: Miles Morales may not spend much time thinking about how and where Miles gets his super-suit, just so long as they can play as one of their favorite heroes. However, the simple answer to these questions comes from an issue of the 2018 Spider-Man comic event titled Spider-Geddon.
Peter debuted a brand-new, original Spider-Man costume on the PS4, along with having an assortment of different suits players could earn through gameplay. Around this time, Marvel Comics launched its Spider-Geddon event, which was a sequel to 2014's Spider-Verse. Both events brought together different spider-themed heroes from across the multiverse. Whereas Peter was the focal point of Spider-Verse, Miles became the main hero in Spider-Geddon, leading a team of heroes against the returning Inheritors.
Early in Spider-Geddon #4, Miles and a group of spider-heroes -- including Otto Octavius' Superior Spider-Man, a six-armed Norman Osborn Spider-Man and the PS4 Spider-Man -- assembled in the Central Park of Earth-13. Since this is the first time PS4 Spidey has met other heroes from alternate universes, he's a bit more wide-eyed than his other colleagues. Spinneret, a Mary-Jane Watson with spider powers, catches his eye, though, on her world, she ended up marrying Peter Parker.
Next, PS4 Spider-Man introduced himself to Earth-616 Miles, relaying how he knows a "Miles" as well. However, his Miles isn't as experienced as this one, who is far more advanced and leading a whole team. After exchanging pleasantries, Miles told PS4 Spider-Man to tell his Miles hi for him, to which the red-blue-and-white clad Spider-Man replied, "I might do more than that. Pretty snappy outfit you've got there..."
The exchange between the two heroes may have come across as mundane two years ago, but after seeing Miles Morales don his now-iconic black suit in the PS5 announcement trailer, the dots are starting to connect. The PS4 Spider-Man must have been so inspired after meeting the experienced Miles Morales that, following the conclusion of Spider-Geddon, he returned to Earth-1048 and designed his Miles a replica costume to wear in the upcoming PS5 game. Peter adds different attire throughout Marvel's Spider-Man by defeating enemies, accomplishing minigame tasks via downloadable content. It remains to be seen if Spider-Man: Miles Morales will include multiple costumes for the new Spider-Man to choose from.
Miles Morales from Earth-616 has years of experience, from replacing the deceased Peter Parker in the Ultimate Universe to escaping that world's demise in 2015's Secret Wars. Spider-Geddon served as his graduation to leading role status in a Marvel event series, and his counterpart in Spider-Man: Miles Morales will begin his journey in a familiar costume when the PS5 game launches this holiday season.
