The ComiXology-operated Marvel Comics app is permanently shutting down in June 2023; however, fans' digital comics purchases will be transferred over to Marvel Unlimited ahead of the shutdown in May 2023.
Marvel announced the Marvel Comics app will officially shut down on June 2, 2023. Prior to that, the Marvel Comics app will remove the ability to purchase digital comics on May 2, 2023. "While we are disappointed fans will no longer be able to use the app starting in June, we know many readers have built up incredible digital libraries of Marvel comics on the app," the publisher said. "To support our loyal fans, we will be making digital comics purchases made prior to May 2 on the Marvel Comics app (operated by Comixology) available and accessible on the Marvel Unlimited app. No Marvel Unlimited subscription purchase will be required to access your previous Marvel Comics app digital comic library."
All that iOS users need to do in order for their collections to move to Marvel Unlimited is create and link an account that links to their Marvel Comics app account before June 2, 2023. Further instructions on how to do so are available by clicking here. Android users, on the other hand, can skip this step since they've already created a Marvel Unlimited account.
Marvel Will Offer More Digital Comics Options in the Coming Months
After May 2, 2023, Marvel Unlimited users can purchase comics directly through Amazon. Other Marvel digital comics and graphic novels will also be available to purchase on Google Play Books, Apple iBooks, Nook and select digital library services. "We are working on more options for digital comics readers and more information will be available in the coming months," the publisher said. Additionally, fans can use redemption codes they received from print comics purchased in comic book shops to access digital copies of their books on Marvel Unlimited beginning on May 2, 2023. No subscription is required.
For those wanting even greater access to over 30,000 digital comics, Marvel fans can subscribe to unlimited access on Marvel Unlimited for $5 a month for the first year by using the checkout code "Unlimited." New issues release weekly approximately three months (or sooner) after they initially release in comic book stores. The publisher reiterated, "A subscription will not be required to access existing digital comic libraries from the Marvel Comics app that have migrated to Marvel Unlimited."
