While they may have appeared late in the game, X-Force is an irreplaceable part of the X-Men mythos and no matter what new timeline the mutants find themselves in, loyal readers can always expect a new X-Force to be waiting for their time in the spotlight. The team was initially the next step for the New Mutants, with Cable giving the young mutants military training to ready them for the times ahead. Eventually, that team was disbanded, and many of them either joined the X-Men proper or the X-Corporation.
Later, Cyclops would reform X-Force under Wolverine, and they acted as a black ops wetwork squad for the X-Men. Logan kept this team together longer than Cyclops even wanted, but this team would eventually disband. The name was later taken by Storm and Psylocke as well as Cable again, and it has now been brought back under Wolverine, Beast, and Jean Grey to serve as Krakoa's answer to the American CIA. With all these line-ups and many more taken into account, here are the 10 strongest rosters of X-Force, ranked by strength.
10 The Original X-Force
The first iteration of X-Force may very well be the least powerful. While Cable intended to make warriors out of these New Mutants, they still had a long way to go.
The first line-up included Cable, Cannonball, Warpath, Boom-Boom, Shatterstar, and Domino (though this was Copycat in disguise). Siryn joined the team before long. While this is far from a weak lineup, X-Force was improved and refined as time went on.
9 X-Statix/X-Force
X-Statix took the name X-Force later on, which was one of the reasons the original X-Force team broke up. X-Statix didn't keep the name for long, and the team consisted of Anarchist, Dead Girl, Doop, Spike, U-Go Girl, Phat, the Orphan, and Vivisector at this point.
Despite the oddball lineup, there is actually some power here, especially in Dead Girl and Doop. U-Go Girl and Spike would be killed during this period, and U-Go Girl's last wish is that the team change its name to X-Statix.
8 Messiah CompleX X-Force
When Hope Summers was born, Cyclops put together a new X-Force team together of mutant trackers. Wolverine, Warpath, Wolfsbane, X-23, Hepzibah, and Caliban made up this team. They ended up finding Cable and the infant Hope in a battle with the Reavers, and a Reaver killed Caliban.
After Xavier convinced Cyclops to allow Cable to take the child and Bishop accidentally left Xavier in a coma, Cyclops disbanded the X-Men, X-Force included (though that didn't last long).
7 Cable & Psylocke's X-Force
This team is of a far more recent vintage and was a union of two different X-Force teams (more on that later).
Cable recruited Psylocke, Fantomex, Marrow, and Doctor Nemesis to protect mutant-kind, as scattered and disparate as the species was at this point in time.
6 The Original X-Force's Reunion
Shortly before House of X and Powers of X kicked off, the original X-Force reunited with young Cable at the helm. This one brought together Warpath, Cannonball, Shatterstar, Boom-Boom, Domino, and the new addition of Deathlok under Cable.
This team battled Stryfe but didn't last long before the new age of X-Men kicked off with House and Powers.
5 Wolverine's Uncanny X-Force
Cyclops ordered Wolverine to disband X-Force after the apparent death of Cable, but Wolverine didn't listen. He felt that he wasn't doing enough with the X-Men, so he organized a new X-Force team with Psylocke, Fantomex, Archangel, and Deadpool. Deathlok and the Nightcrawler of the Age of Apocalypse joined the team.
The team deals with an army of Deathloks, trouble in Otherworld, Archangel becoming the heir of Apocalypse, and Daken organizing a new Brotherood. In the end, Wolverine disbands the team over the guilt of killing his own son.
4 Cyclops' Black Ops X-Force
After the Messiah CompleX incident, the X-Men later reformed, and Cyclops united the new black ops X-Force team with Wolverine at the lead. X-23, Wolfsbane, and Warpath joined up immediately. Later, Domino, Elixir, Archangel, and Vanisher joined up as well, and Cable worked with them during the Messiah War and Second Coming.
Later, Cyclops would have Wolverine disband the team.
3 Cable & The X-Force
After the Avengers' war with the X-Men, Cable began having visions of even more dismal futures, and he recruited Hope Summers, Colossus, Forge, Domino, and Doctor Nemesis to make sure these don't come to pass.
This team lasted for a while, but it was disbanded before too long.
2 Psylocke & Storm's X-Force
Around the same time Cable organized the above X-Force team, Psylocke and Storm organized their own X-Force. For their line-up, they recruit Puck, Bishop, Spyral, and Fantomex. This X-Force specializes in tracking down a series of drug dealers, but the team disbands before long.
However, Psylocke and Fantomex would join an X-Force team with Cable almost immediately afterward.
1 Krakoan X-Force
The most powerful X-Force team to date has to be the current "mutant CIA" on Krakoa. Sage and Beast head the team with Wolverine as the field leader. Jean Grey, Black Tom Cassady, Kid Omega, Domino, and Colossus have partaken in this new X-Force. It started with Professor Xavier being assassinated on Krakoa and he and Cyclops later deciding that a team like X-Force would still be necessary on Krakoa. They've taken on mutant tissue harvesters, assassins, and hostile nations bent on Krakoa's destruction.
However, the cracks are already starting to show with this X-Force, as Jean is uncomfortable with the work, Domino and Colossus are having personal issues, and Beast's ego is getting the better of him.
