Marvel’s upcoming 2019 event The War of the Realms has released its first teaser, which shows the Ten Realms at war, with Marvel’s Earth as their chosen battlefield.

From the award-winning Mighty Thor team of Jason Aaron, Russell Dauterman and Matthew Wilson, War of the Realms is an epic crossover event that will enlist every great Marvel hero to save Earth and beyond from complete annihilation.

"The story really begins when that war that’s been brewing for years in the pages of Thor explodes here in Midgard," said writer Jason Aaron in a statement. “And at that point, it’s bigger than a Thor battle -- everyone becomes a part of that battle.” The writer said previously that he has been building toward this storyline for the entire duration of his Thor run. “ So, we’re talking six years and 80-something issues and counting.”

In the first look at the Issue #1 cover by the legendary artist Arthur Adams, we see New York City in the middle of an all-out magical war. Thor’s fellow Avengers, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Black Panther, Blade, Ghost Rider and She-Hulk, are present fighting alongside Doctor Strange, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Wolverine, Daredevil, The Thing, Spider-Man and the Punisher.

Their opponents appear to be Frost Giants from Jotunheim, Dark Elves from Svartalfheim, Fire Demons from Muspelheim and Angels from Heven. One of the primary antagonists featured is the Dark Elf Malekith the Accursed, who has become a major antagonist in Aaron’s Thor run. He gleefully fights his enemy Thor, who wields not one, but two hammers, which is something we’ve seen Thor wield before in the God Bomb storyline.

“Even though this story involves a lot of moving pieces and elements from the Thor comics and the Avengers comics,” added editor Wil Moss, “its something that everyone can just dive into.”

This impending conflict that will engulf and change the Marvel Universe forever is scheduled to begin April 2019. The prologue to the event will begin in Asgardians of the Galaxy #7, Avengers Vol. 8 #16-#17 and Thor Vol. 5 #10-11.
