When fans think of Marvel villains they think of one word: bold. Some are rulers of their countries, others are rulers of the galaxy. Some have super strength while others rely on their quick wit. Whatever the case may be, Marvel villains share one familiar trait with their hero counterparts, they look really good doing it.

While some villains have upgraded their weaponry and armor to combat the ever-growing advancements of superheroes, others have simply got a paint job and changed the aesthetic of their look. Some classic bad guy threads still hold up today and some have upgraded for tomorrow with fashionable costumes.

10 Galactus

Galactus

The eater of planets, Galactus was originally a space explorer named Galan. He gained his size and strength by passing over a star and joining powers with other sentient beings. Galactus debuted in Fantastic Four #48 in March of 1966. He's usually depicted as a gigantic-looking man who towers over the planets beneath him. He has no regard for people and life. He drains the life energy from certain planets to feed his own power.

Galactus wears a giant purple, sometimes pink mask, that covers most of his big face and head. He has gladiator-style armor that is also purple and sometimes pink. Parts of the armor are covered in blue and sometimes he has an Iron-Man-like chest piece on his suit. His style is simple and sleek but when you're bigger than whole planets, you don't need to look flashy.

9 Thanos

Thanos

The Mad Titan, Thanos, is also one of the Avenger's strongest enemies. While he is synonymous with the Infinity Gauntlet, there's much more to this galactic warrior. Aside from a magical glove of Infinity stones and his obsession with Death, Thanos is a true gladiator of the galaxy. Thanos first appeared on the pages of Marvel in February of 1973 in The Invincible Iron Man #55.

Thanos' classic comic book costume is something only a ruthless space dictator would be able to pull off. He is armored with a blue bodysuit, gold shoulder pads, gold gloves, and his giant gold boots. Finishing off his garb is a blue and gold protective helmet he uses to protect himself from Hulk's smashing fists and Thor's hammer shots. Similar to Galactus, the Mad Titan is armed and ready for battle at all times.

8 Dr. Doom

Doctor Doom With His Castle In The Distance

Doctor Victor Von Doom made his comic book debut in The Fantastic Four #5 in July of 1962. He is known for being the ruler of Latveria, extremely intelligent, and a thorn in the side of many Marvel heroes, especially the Fantastic Four. Doom is known for being a genius and is a master in dark science and magic.

Doom also wears armor that makes him superhuman, can shoot lasers, fly, and even provide him a forcefield. His armor and mask are made of strong metal and they're covered by his trademark green hood and cape. His mask and costume are so beloved that some consider Dr. Doom to be the greatest of all Marvel Villains.

7 Magneto

Magneto

Magneto was introduced in The X-Men #1 in September of 1963.  He has battled many Marvel characters but is most known for his time fighting with and against the X-Men. He's also known as the leader of the Brotherhood of Mutants and can control any objects that can be magnetized. His ability to move metal and generate electromagnetic energy is why he is considered one of the most powerful mutants to ever live.

Magneto's classic red and purple costume makes him shoot off the pages and captures the eyes of fans everywhere. His large purple cape flows in the wind while he uses his powers to fly around the world. However, it's his helmet that is most important to his outfit. It not only protects his head from incoming physical attacks but also keeps mutants with mind control from interfering with his sinister attacks.

6 Dr. Octopus

Doctor Ocotpus

Doctor Otto Octavius, aka Doc Ock, first showed up on the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #3 in July of 1963. While he has battled all kinds of Marvel's good guys, it's his personal rivalry with Spider-Man that he is best known for. Once considered a brilliant scientist, a lab experiment gone wrong caused him to turn to crime. He is a founding member of the Sinister Six, a team of Spider-Man's worst enemies.

Doc Ock is usually known as a smaller, chubby man who wears glasses, or science goggles. When his experiment went wrong, his metal harness was grafted to his body, giving him octopus-like tentacles permanently. He usually has an orange and green jumpsuit and uses his four mechanical arms to bat down Spidey and aide in his shenanigans.

5 Apocalpyse

Apocalypse

Apocalypse, once En Sabah Nur, arrived in May of 1986 in X-Factor #5. His superhuman strength and high intelligence make him one of the most dangerous villains in the universe. He's thought to be the first being ever to be born with the mutant gene. His powers and abilities are endless and he is one of the few Marvel characters who has immortality.

Apocalpyse's armor is usually all blue, with red thrown in at times. He also has the letter A on his belt and sometimes his neck collar. Just in case you forget who he is. His suit fits his large frame and can be used to regenerate mutant powers. His color scheme looks great with his blue skin, however, he doesn't need it to survive.

4 Loki

Loki

Loki is known as the God of Mischief and is usually depicted as a villain, but sometimes also an anti-hero. The modern Loki first appeared in Journey Into Mystery #85 in October of 1962. He is the adopted son of Odin and brother of Thor. He is very strong but his real powers are his use of magic and trickery.

Who knows fashion sense better than a God? Loki's main outfit is usually green and yellow, with big bendy horns on his helmet, and a long yellow cape. While Thor's costume may be considered iconic, it's his brother's flashy threads that stand out the most.

3 Dark Phoenix

Dark Phoenix

Jean Grey's evil persona, the Dark Phoenix, exploded off the pages of X-Men #135 in July of 1980. Phoenix has great cosmic powers but she becomes evil when she accidentally kills people on a planet by absorbing a nearby star's energy. Jean Grey is considered one of the strongest mutants, but when she is combined with the Phoenix force she has matched strength and even defeated Galactus.

While Jean Grey traditionally has a lot of blue and yellow in her X-Men costume, the Phoenix tends to have a lot of green, red, and yellow. She usually wears a yellow/gold sash, with long yellow boots, long yellow gloves, and the yellow Phoenix symbol across her chest. Her main costume is usually a red bodysuit (green on occasion). Her costume may be one of the most eye-popping things ever to grace the pages of a comic book.

2 Taskmaster

Taskmaster

Taskmaster first came into Marvel Comics in The Avengers #195 in May of 1980. Known for his ability to copy and imitate any fighting style he sees, The Taskmaster is highly skilled and has battled many heroes including Black Widow, Captain America, and Spider-Man. He has served many different organizations as a hired gun, most notably A.I.M., Secret Avengers, and The Thunderbolts.

Taskmaster has such a unique but highly detailed look. He is known for carrying a sword and shield, but also a bow and arrow, guns, and other random weapons. His mask resembles that of a skeleton and his colors of choice are usually blue, orange, and white. The Taskmaster has an awesome costume but only has one thing in mind, how can this hero be matched?

1 Green Goblin

green goblin comics costume

When The Amazing Spider-Man #14 hit stands in July of 1964, the Green Goblin brought more than just pumpkin bombs. He brought one of the most famous and classic comic book costumes ever created. Norman Osborne, desperate to keep his company afloat, experimented on himself. Unfortunately, things went south and from the ashes of Oscorp, came The Green Goblin.

A constant problem for Spider-Man, Goblin uses his genius intellect, super strength, and an airborne glider to swing around the web-head and make trouble for anyone who gets in his way. Armed with his explosive knapsack of pumpkin bombs and his aerodynamic glider, he wears a classic purple top, purple gloves, and purple boots. The rest of his costume is made up of... GREEN! This includes his iconic mask, which has that classic goblin look and protects Osborne's identity.
