Marvel's superheroes are known for their sense of camaraderie, but not all of them are the buddy-buddy types. Heroes like Spider-Man are known for their gregarious nature, making friends as they fight crime, but others are not that way. They don't get along well with their fellow heroes, and if they do, it's after years of working with them. They aren't known for taking selfies with the civvies either, just getting the job done.

A superhero doesn't have to be friendly or even well-liked by their fellows. Some of Marvel's most well-known heroes aren't exactly winning any popularity contests, and that doesn't bother them at all.

10 Namor Does Not Care If Anyone Likes Him Or Not

Namor Holding A Trident

Namor is the king of Atlantis and doesn't suffer fools easily. However, to Namor just about everyone else is a fool, and he has no problem making sure they all know that. Namor doesn't mince words; he's not in it to be popular or make friends. The only friend he actually wants is Sue Richards, and everyone else just has to deal with it.

His bad attitude has seen him come to blows with many heroes over the years. He's powerful enough that the others will put up with him most of the time, but very few heroes actually like him. In fact, his best friend in the Marvel Universe is Doctor Doom, and even they basically hate each other.

9 Karnak's Powers Make Him Rather Blunt

Karnak in his All-New, All-Different costume looks at the reader

Karnak has worked with the Inhuman Royal Family for a long time, his advice to Black Bolt helping the king navigate the most dangerous situations. Karnak's power to see the flaw in all things extends far beyond combat, and it's part of what makes him rather unfriendly. Karnak is blunt and to the point; he doesn't sugarcoat anything.

It's hard to be friends with Karnak for that very reason. He's not going to go out of his way to make friends with others, and he's always seeing how to break everything. His existence is very lonely, and his direct way of speaking means that it's hard for anyone who doesn't already know him to love him.

8 Professor X Has Gotten A Lot Worse Over The Years

House of X/Powers of X, depicting Professor X, Magneto and Jean Gray walking through a Krakoa Gate.

Professor X founded the X-Men to fight for mutant rights, but he's made some questionable choices over the years. Xavier has mindwiped his students, kept secrets from them, and even enslaved the Danger Room after he found it was sentient. A lot of his choices since establishing Krakoa have also been more pragmatic, and his reputation has suffered for it.

Professor X was always a bit daunting to approach, but that's changed a lot recently. His former students don't trust him and the decisions he makes are for mutantkind as a whole, often overlooking the individuals. Leaders have to make hard choices, and Xavier has embraced this, not caring what others think as long as mutants are safe.

7 Daredevil's Happy Go Lucky Days Are Far Behind Him

Daredevil in the rain from Marvel Comics

There was a time when Daredevil was more of a Spider-Man-type hero, a happy-go-lucky sort. However, years of crime-fighting broke him of that, and he became a more hard-edged hero than ever. The height of this was when his identity was revealed, and he gaslit even his friends about it. He's known for being a ladies' man, but calling him friendly is a road too far.

Daredevil has friends in the superhero community but not nearly as many others. On top of that, the people of Hell's Kitchen don't exactly look at him as the beloved protector, but as the guardian devil who avenges all wrongs with violence.

6 Emma Frost Is Too Rich To Be Friendly

Emma Frost from the X-Men

Emma Frost's telepathy makes her a potent X-Man, but that doesn't mean she's going to be nice to her teammates or anyone else. She hasn't been a villain in a long time, but one that hasn't changed is her haughty attitude. Calling her the least liked of the X-Men isn't exactly true, but it's pretty close as she never goes out of her way to ingratiate herself with anyone.

Frost has the attitude of a child of privilege. She knows that she doesn't really need anyone's help, both because of her powers and her wealth, so she sees no problem in being very unpleasant. She has friends, but it's more in spite of her than because of her.

5 Cyclops Isn't There To Be Liked

Cyclops fires an extremely wide optic blast.

Cyclops is the X-Men's greatest leader, and he takes that very seriously. Cyclops knows that being friendly can be a problem when one is in command, so he's all about the business. This has extended into his personal life, as well, with many of his teammates preferring to not hang out with him because of that. Cyclops has had a rough life, and his attitude about things has made it worse at times.

Even if a lot of X-Men don't like Cyclops, they all respect him and do what he says. He's lightened up over the years, especially since the establishment of Krakoa, but for a long time, he was the X-Men's stuffy leader first and foremost.

4 No One Likes Ares, And The Feeling Is Mutual

Ares Dark Avengers feature

Marvel's Olympians don't get the same treatment that the Norse do, but they're still quite formidable. In the absence of Thor, Iron Man got Ares to join up with his pro-Registration Avengers team. The God of War was excellent as muscle for the team, but he was also surly with his teammates at best and downright insulting and dismissive at worst.

Ares loved to fight, and he took being an Avenger seriously. He stayed with the team when Norman Osborn took over and continued being the least pleasant person on the team, which is saying something in a group of villains. His death and resurrection didn't help his disposition any, either.

3 Wolverine's Attitude Makes It Difficult To Make Friends

Wolverine is the best there is at what he does, but making friends isn't on that list. Wolverine took being a difficult teammate to a new level in the early days of being an X-Man. While he did make some lasting friendships, it had more to do with his teammates taking the time to get through his shell than him reaching out to them.

Wolverine has lost so many people in his life that he'll push others away in order to save everyone the pain. Once someone is friends with Wolverine, he'll do anything for them, but it takes a long time to get through his tough outer shell and the sheer disdain with which he can treat people.

2 The Hulk Hates Just About Everyone

The Immortal Hulk in a stoic pose, in front of a bright green nuclear explosion

The Hulk is the most dangerous monster on Earth, and it's not even close. Calling him a superhero is completely wrong; he's done much more damage than good. He does save the day, but it's not out of any sense of altruism. The Hulk hates just about everyone; beyond Betty Ross, it's all about whom he hates the least.

The less intelligent the Hulk, the more he hates everyone, but even when the Hulk is smart, he's not exactly a ray of sunshine. He's just as liable to punch someone as talk to them, and most heroes would rather he not be around, something he agrees with.

1 The Punisher Only Cares About His Mission

Marvel's Punisher In The Beginning surrounded by guns.

The day the Punisher lost his family to a mob hit changed him forever. Frank Castle wasn't exactly the most gregarious before this, but his obsession with revenge took over his life. Since then, calling the Punisher friendly is a road much too far. He has devoted all of his free time to destroying crime, and being friendly has little bearing on his mission.

Punisher has no time for making friends with other superheroes, most of whom see him as a criminal, and the few people he's brought into his mission have been associates more than anything else. He sees no reason to make friends.
