Marvel is the biggest name in pop culture and have long ruled the sales roost in the comic industry. They've held this position for a long time, putting out more books than anyone else, flooding the market with their iconic heroes. They're putting out some great comics right now, with some of comics' best creators working their magic on the veritable mountain of books Marvel puts out every month.
November is looking to be a great month for Marvel fans, as the publisher is putting out a lot of books that would be perfect to read. From ongoings to miniseries, Marvel is bringing the fire this fall.
10 Venom #1 Redefines The Fan Favorite
After The King In Black, Venom is huge again at Marvel. On November 10th, the next chapter in the symbiotic superhero's life drops with Venom #1, by the all-star creative team of writers Al Ewing and Ram V and artist Bryan Hitch. With Eddie Brock's son Dylan as Venom, things are looking to be very different.
Ewing is fresh off his landmark run on The Immortal Hulk and V has been proving his horror chops at DC and on indie books. The issue also marks Hitch's first interior Marvel work in years. This one has it all and should be a wild ride.
9 Hawkeye: Kate Bishop #1 Brings Hawkeye Back To The East Coast For New Adventures
Marvel loves its MCU synergy, even if its often futile, and Hawkeye: Kate Bishop #1, by writer Marieke Nijkamp and artist Enid Balam, is the latest example. Seeing Kate return to the East Coast after years of adventuring in Cali and picking up a simple case on the way, this issue brings back the fan favorite. Nothing is ever simple for a superhero, though, and this one illustrates that.
Kate's always been an entertaining character and any excuse for her to have more solo adventures is one readers will take. Nijkamp is a New York Times bestselling author, so this one should be interesting, to say the least.
8 Thor #19 Begins A New Story Arc, "God Of Hammers"
Writer Donny Cates and artist Nic Klein's Thor has been firing on all cylinders since it started and issue 19 looks to be no different. Mjolnir is missing and no one can find it, leading Thor and his Asgardian friends on a hunt to find it. Who has it and what do they plan to do with it? It's a race against time to get it back before disaster strikes.
Cates has been one of Marvel's MVPs for years now and his Thor has been impressing immensely, getting better and better with every issue. Klein has proven completely able to bring Cates' ideas to life and this new story arc is looking to be another hit, releasing on November 24th.
7 Hellions #17 Brings Things To A Head
Hellions is one of the unsung gems of the X-Men line and issue 17 looks to be another banger. Written by Zeb Well with art by Stephen Segovia, this one sees the team violently imploding after some heavy revelations and actions in the last story arc. Orphan-Maker, trying to get back in Nanny's good graces, does something ill-advised, but that's the name of the game for a Hellion.
Wells has somehow invested this title with the kind of humor and pathos that perfectly balance out, with a heaping helping of the old ultra violence for that entertainment factor. Combined with Segovia's adroit pencils, this book is a hidden gem and this issue looks to keep that up on November 10th.
6 Black Panther #1 Promises A New Direction For Wakanda's Greatest Hero
Black Panther has gone through a lot of changes over the years and since his movie dropped, Marvel has gotten some of the best writing talent from outside of comics to work on his book. Academy Award-winning writer John Ridley takes over with the new Black Panther #1 on November 24th, joined by artist Juann Cabal.
This one brings T'Challa back from space and drops him in the middle of a big espionage packed story. This is a different direction for Black Panther and with Ridley on board, this one should be an undisputed epic.
5 X-Force #25 Sees Wolverine Dealing With A New Threat To Krakoa
X-Force is another X-Men title that has gotten lost in the shuffle but it's better than most of the line. Issue 25, by writer Benjamin Percy and artist Robert Gill, looks to keep that up on November 17th. When a new threat washes up on the shores of Krakoa, Wolverine springs into action to end before it can take hold, while Kid Omega and Phoebe Cuckoo explore a new facet of their relationship.
Percy has taken a different tack with X-Force, concentrating on telling short stories that see the team quickly deal with the worst threats to the island nation. X-Force is one of the X-Men's most storied franchises and Percy's X-Force is a worthy successor to that legacy.
4 Wolverine #18 Sees The Mutant Hero Protecting A Friend From Forces Gunning For Both Of Them
Wolverine is the best there is at what he does and writer Benjamin Percy has been putting him through his paces. On November 24th, Wolverine #18 sees the feral mutant trying to save his friend in the CIA, agent Bannister, from foes hunting him down while trying to find the mole on Krakoa that Bannister warned him about. Joined by artist Paco Diaz, this one promises to be action packed.
Percy has made Wolverine the premiere spot for black ops action and this issue is another example of that. He writes the best Wolverine in years and this book is consistently one of the best X-Men books on the shelves.
3 The Eternals Get A New Leader In Eternals #7
The Eternals are one of Jack Kirby's greatest creations and they've been in amazing hands since writer Kieron Gillen and artist Esad Ribic took over. The last story arc was full of big action and revelations, with November 10th's Eternals #7 dropping another huge change on the immortals: They have a new leader, and it's Thanos.
Gillen and Ribic have done an amazing job of really capturing the power and grandeur of the Eternals, with this issue looking to be no different. The movie may be getting mixed reviews but this book has delivered perfectly since it began.
2 Hulk #1 Starts A New Era For The Jade Giant
After the horror of The Immortal Hulk, writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Ottley take over everyone's favorite smashing specialist in November 24th's Hulk #1. Hulk's rage is building to levels heretofore unseen and no one can stop it. With the Avengers at a loss to deal with him, what's next for the Hulk? This book answers that question.
Cates is Marvel's not so secret weapon and teaming him with Ottley, known for his expertise in superhero violence from Invincible, on a Hulk book was an inspired choice. Hulk has always been a fighter and it will be great to see where these two take him.
1 Dark Ages #3 Continues Marvel's Alternate Universe Epic
Writer Tom Taylor made a name for himself at DC with Injustice, an alternate universe epic and he's bringing that expertise to Marvel. November 17th's Dark Ages #3, with art by Iban Coello, continues this epic tale of a Marvel Universe without electricity as Apocalypse works to reawaken the Uncreator and gain its power, with the heroes rallying to stop him.
Dark Ages has proven to be an amazing book so far and this issue looks no different from what came before. Coello's art has really made this book shine even more than it already did, an irony for a book set in a world without electric lights.
