Thor Odinson, the God of Thunder, protector of Earth and Asgard, is one of Marvel’s most popular heroes. Everyone knows about his superhuman strength, speed, and agility but what about his lesser-known powers? In the MCU, we only get a glimpse of some of the many feats Thor is capable of. He actually has many more powers than portrayed in the films, and some are slightly odd.

Hopefully, some of these powers will make their way into Thor: Love and Thunder, the upcoming 2022 film that has everyone talking. For now, here are ten interesting powers you might not know about that make Thor the powerful hero he is.

10 Warrior's Madness

Thor’s Warrior’s Madness is a formidable and sort of scary skill that not many know about. It is based in the Old Norse idea of “berserkergang.” In legend, berserkers were warriors whose bloodlust and ferocity made them feel invincible in battle, perhaps with the help of hallucinogens.

For Thor, the Warrior's Madness temporarily allows him access to ten times his strength and stamina, but it isn’t without its dangers. It is like a blind senseless fury, which means he puts everyone around him in danger – even people on his team.

9 Longevity

That Thor has a prolonged life might seem a little obvious to some – he is referred to as a god after all. However, the truth behind this is pretty strange. In the comics, Thor is arguably more of an alien that an actual god, and therefore isn’t as immortal as you’d think.

Rather, Thor, as well as all Asgardians, relies on the Golden Apples of Idunn to maintain his prolonged life. In Norse mythology, Idunn is the goddess who bestows youth on the gods, without whom they would grow old and die. The Apples of Idunn slow down the aging process considerably and are the reason that Thor has been alive for so many centuries.

8 Weather Manipulation

Thor’s weather manipulation won’t come as much of a surprise to most – after all, he is known as the God of Thunder. However, the extent to which he has control over the weather will be a surprise to some.

There is much debate whether Thor’s powers over thunder, lightning, rain, and wind are something he was born with or something given to him by Mjolnir. It is possible that his inherent powers are supplemented by his use of the hammer.

7 Dimensional And Time Travel

With the help of his hammer Mjolnir, Thor is able to transport through time and dimensions. While the hammer could originally be used for time travel, the powers were removed by Immortus.

Thor can still use the hammer to manipulate time, if not travel through it, and for dimensional travel. He is able to open portals between dimensions, such as between his home Asgard, and his favorite place, Earth.

6 Geo-Blast, Thermo-Blast, And Anti-Force

The Geo-Blast, Thermo-Blast, and Anti-Force are three relatively similar powers that Mjolnir bestows Thor with. He is able to use the gravitational force of a planet to create an energy blast known as the Geo-Blast. Both the Thermo-Blast and Anti-Force are capable of destroying planets by either creating or channeling energy.

5 The God-Blast

The God Blast is similar to the Geo-Blast, Thermo-Blast, and Anti-Force, in that it requires Mjolnir to function. The God Blast, however, is much more powerful than those three forces. It is a cosmic force that taps into the power that comes from within Thor.

The God Blast can be extremely dangerous as it is connected to his life force, and he has to use it sparingly. Thor was able to effectively use the God-Blast against Galactus, forcing him to run for the hills.

4 Mjolnir's Other Powers

Thanks to his hammer, Thor has displayed some pretty amazing feats. A few things are common knowledge about Mjolnir: it can only be picked up by someone who is worthy, and it acts as a sort of boomerang, returning when called vocally or mentally.

Besides absorbing energy, nuclear power, and force fields, the hammer can also reveal illusions and project images. With the hammer, Thor is seen to be able to turn vampires to dust and track down people or objects. The hammer also allows Thor to burst through mountains and even planets.

3 The Power Of Flight

Another one of Thor’s powers bestowed on him by Mjolnir is the power of flight. Thor spins the hammer very fast, creating a vortex of wind, into which he throws the hammer. It pulls him into flight, propelling him.

It is a subject of debate whether or not Thor can fly on his own or relies on the use of the hammer. Some comics have depicted him flying without Mjolnir, similar to Superman.

2 Belt Of Strength

Thor

“Megingjord”, or the Belt of Strength, is another weapon in Thor’s arsenal, though it doesn’t receive as much attention as Mjolnir.

Also borrowed from Nose Mythology, the Belt of Strength doubles his strength without the unwanted side effects of the Warrior’s Madness. Even the Belt leaves him in a weakened state, however, therefore he doesn’t use it very often.

1 The Odinforce

The Odinforce is an infinite mystical power that is wielded by the Kings of Asgard. Named after his father, it is bestowed on Thor after Odin’s death. It can be used for teleportation, firing energy blasts, and many other formidable powers. Use of the Odinforce causes its user to fall into a deep sleep – the Odinsleep – in order to top up the power.

When Thor’s hammer is damaged, Doctor Strange merges the hammer with Thor’s Odinforce, which means his lifeforce is linked to Mjolnir.
