For a character that tends to be more serious, especially in more modern times, Thor's had some pretty funny moments in the comics. They aren't in the same vein as the MCU's take on the character. Thor isn't cracking jokes, nor should he be, as that doesn't make much sense for his character.

The moments are more fun for how zany they are. Walter Simonson's run, in particular, puts Thor in some strange situations and has him come up with plans that make a reader do a double-take.

10 Thor Tricks Looking By Hiding Behind A Mannequin Of Himself

The olden days of comics were littered with silliness that wouldn't fly today, and this panel is just a small example of this. Loki had stolen Thor's hammer, hiding it away in an impenetrable forcefield.

After hearing a newspaper stand attendee proclaim that Thor would defeat Loki within the week, he rushed to see if the hammer was still there, only to find Thor standing there. In a panic, he dropped the forcefield, allowing Donald Blake to rush after the hammer, revealing the Thor Loki had seen to be nothing more than a mannequin.

9 The Alter Egos Of Superman & Thor Quite Literally Collide

Thor meets Superman

Crossovers between the two major comic book companies always lead to something fun, be it a showdown fans have always wanted to see happen or a funny moment between characters.

The latter happened here as Thor runs square into Clark Kent on his way to a press conference. It's funny that the way these two titans meet isn't in conflict or even knowing who each other are, but because Thor hit Clark Kent in the face with a door.

8 Thor Tricks The Shapeshifting Xartans Into Becoming Trees

Thor Tricks the Xartans

When the Xartans arrived, they had similar capability as the Skrulls, able to assume the forms of anyone they wanted. It made them a danger, but luckily their ability came with a major drawback.

They assumed the intelligence of whatever they took the form of, a fact Thor took advantage of. The look on Thor's smug face is the icing on the cake of this panel. He seems so proud of what he did, outsmarting the Xartans with such a simple tactic.

7 Thor Needs A Hearty Breakfast Of Embryos & Swine

Thor is at his funniest when he's unaware or uncaring about human conventions. He sticks out like a sore thumb and comes off as either rude or an idiot, both of which make sense for a god walking among mortals.

This panel is an example of that, showing Thor yelling as if he's in a dining hall rather than a small-town diner. The on the nose description of what he's eating works perfectly, as does the fact his companion completely ignores him and tries to stay on the task at hand.

6 Thor Divulges In The Joys Of A Creamsicle

The timing of the dialogue in this panel makes it so funny. The way Thor goes on about all the grand places he's been, dining in locales humans could only dream leads up perfectly to him tasting a creamsicle.

It's one of the few times that Thor's way of speaking works perfectly as a joke as well. It's one thing the comics from the 60s and 70s did well, leaning into the fact the human world would be so foreign and strange to Thor.

5 One As Proud As Thor Never Begs For Help

Thor sinking into the ground

There's more to the panel than just this image, but that face is one of the best images in comics. It even ended up becoming a meme because it's such a perfect show of defiance and lack of care.

In the comic, Thor is sinking into the ground and is too proud to beg for help, seeing it beneath him, leading to that glorious image. If there's one image that sums up Thor before the 2000s, it's that. He was always the proud warrior who was a little full of himself.

4 Loki, The Petulant Child

Thor vs Loki

It isn't as big a knee-slapper as others, but there's something funny about seeing Loki act like the petulant child he is. While he's a great character, that's the core of what he is, and this panel sums that up perfectly.

He's yelling at Thor like he's the younger brother desperately trying to show his brother that he's the one in charge now. They may as well have added in a 'Your not the boss of me, Thor' for good measure.

3 Thor Tricks A Mobster By Essentially Telling Him To Look Over There

Tricking someone to look in the opposite direction of you is an age-old trick that kids always play on each other. It's one that Thor managed to use on a hardened mobster who had Jane Foster at gunpoint.

He bounced his voice off the walls, making it seem like someone else was in the room, and of course, the mobster turned to look rather than just doubling down on the fact he had a hostage. It's such a silly moment, but one that fits how goofy Thor was at the time.

2 No Disguise Of Loki Will Ever Fool Thor

thor reveals Loki as a pigeon

Loki's always been known for his disguises in Thor, taking on the appearance of anything he desired. In most modern-day comics, that tends to just be other people. In the olden days, he was just about anything he wanted, and in this case, it was a pigeon.

Thankfully, Thor had a full-proof plan for rooting him out! No pigeon can ever resist the urge for peanuts unless, of course, they aren't a pigeon at all. The whole panel is absurd in all of the best ways.

1 Behold, The Mighty Thunder Frog

Thor the thunder frog

The image speaks for itself, and it's a prime example of the light-hearted nature of Walter Simonson's Thor. The entire story feels like a drugged-out fantasy that sees Thor battling oversized New York rats and even gains the attraction of the queen of Central Park frogs.

It's insanity from the start, only getting crazier the longer it goes on. By the end, Thor regains his body, but every fan of Thor should know the tales of the thunder frog.
