With the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, notions about the world of Marvel Comics have been made by general audiences. For example, the majority of moviegoers think that Thanos is one terrifying villain. True, Thanos is intimidating, but those who have only seen him in MCU films are missing out on some terribly funny comic book moments.

Thanos possesses a typical comic book history, which means that he has done absolutely hilarious things over the course of his existence. Read on if you want to know what shenanigans the Mad Titan has gotten up to during his time in Marvel comic book panels.

10 Tried Becoming A Pirate

You can't make this stuff up. At one point in his life, Thanos joined a pirate crew. Admittedly, this pirate crew was a space pirate crew, but they still used the word "pirate" to describe themselves. Honestly, Thanos as a pirate is not even the silliest thing on this list. But it does sound absolutely ridiculous, especially after watching his stoic demeanor in the MCU films. Eventually, Thanos got fed up with the pirate's life after a while, so he ended up killing the captain and taking over the crew.

9 Fights An Egyptian Pharaoh

Marvel heroes have to contend with all sorts of villains, even murderous pharaohs from Ancient Egypt. After messing with some of Marvel's greatest heroes, Pharaoh Akhenaten attracts the attention of the Mad Titan. Thanos teams up with the heroes to bring Akhenaten down. The cosmically-powered Pharaoh ends up being no match for Thanos. Despite the far-reaching implications of this fight, we still can't help but laugh a little when reading this. Seriously, it's an Egyptian pharaoh tussling with Thanos. What's not to laugh at?

8 Defeated By Squirrel Girl

Squirrel Girl vs. Thanos

We don't mean to hate on Squirrel Girl. She's awesome. But how embarrassing is it that Thanos once got taken down by her in the comics. This is the guy who can hold Infinity Stones in his bare hands, who crafted the Infinity Gauntlet for his own personal use.

And he got beat by a hero who has squirrel powers. Thanos was able to go toe-to-toe with Adam Warlock. And in one fairly quick fight, Squirrel Girl gets the upper hand over him. People better start taking Squirrel Girl seriously, we're just saying.

7 Locked Up In Alcatraz

At one point in Marvel comic book history, Thanos gets a bit under the weather. And by under the weather, we mean cursed to die by the personification of Death. While feeling sick, Thanos gets imprisoned in Alcatraz. That's right. The Mad Titan once spent time in an Earth prison. This is a rather sad moment when reading the second volume of Thanos Returns because you're seeing this terrible villain laid low, but it's still rather satisfying to see him locked up in a mediocre jail cell.

6 Owned His Own Helicopter

THANOS HELICOPTER

Do you want to know what to do to make any villain seem ridiculous? You give them their very own chopper with their name stenciled on it in big, blocky letters. While fighting some Marvel heroes, Thanos rides in on a helicopter that inexplicably has his name on it. I suppose when you become as powerful as the Mad Titan, you feel the need to proclaim you arrival in a flamboyant fashion. However, you'd think the loud rumble of a helicopter would be sufficient noise to herald your coming without adding a billboard of a name to the tail-end of your chopper.

5 Fell In Love With Death

Thanos giving a black rose to the female form of Death

This ridiculous action is one that most comic book readers are familiar with. Aside from being a purple-ish Mad Titan, Thanos is most well-know for having a major crush on Death. In Marvel Comics, there is an actual personification of Death, and Thanos is obsessed with it. That is what tipped everyone off at the end of The Avengers that Thanos would be the big villain of the MCU. Only one fool would be described as "courting death." In the comics, this courtship is taken far more literally than in the movie universe.

4 Created The Rot With His Love

Speaking of Thanos' strange romance with Death, at one point in the comics, it causes the universe a great deal of trouble. The Mad Titan and his lover make a sort of...offspring (don't ask), and this creation is known as the Rot. It is neither living or dead, but it causes great destruction and chaos wherever it goes.

All that havoc aside, we find it most hilarious that the essential baby between Death and Thanos ended up being a black void. Seriously, the Rot is just like a black hole, only it has no end in sight. Talk about family issues.

3 Became A Great Avenger

It must be absolutely strange to travel to the future and find out that Thanos became the world's greatest Avenger. This is exactly what happened to heroes Sunspot and Cannonball in the comic series Avengers World. They stop off at a bar and learn that Thanos not only became an Avenger, but he is also a favorite among the public. This is so outrageous; we're having a hard time picturing the actual Thanos deciding to join the Avengers. Team up with them once or twice, maybe. But join with a full-time membership? Never.

2 Spliced His DNA With Other Marvel Heroes To Create Clones

The only thing more troublesome than one Thanos is a whole bunch of Thanoses. The original Thanos decided that there was not enough of him in the universe, so he made the Thanosi, a group of clones he spliced together using his DNA and that of other characters in the Marvel universe. One of these five clones, known as Omega, is obviously a strange genetic mix-up of Thanos and Galactus. If you don't remember Galactus, well, he's the giant, planet-sized behemoth that occasionally bothers the Fantastic Four.

1 Got Zombified

Along with a host of other Marvel Comics characters, Thanos got the zombie treatment in Marvel Zombies. Despite the grotesque nature of the artwork and the pretty horrific things that happen in the series, it's clear that comedy is the name of the game. Readers can chortle over their favorite heroes craving brains and traversing the galaxy looking for more. And Thanos is no exception. The Mad Titan gets even madder when he joins the ranks of the living dead.
