Magic is one of the most powerful forces in comics. It's one of those powers that writers use to solves problems they can't think of another way out of. Heroes with magic are the ones who often save the day and villains with magic are the ones who do a whole lot of damage to the fabric of reality.

Since its formation, the Marvel Universe has had a lot of very powerful magic users. This list is going to look at some of the most powerful magic users in the Marvel Universe, with a few provisos- no angels or demons, since they are inherently magical and much more powerful than any being who isn't composed of magic, or godlike rulers of magical dimensions. They always lose anyway, so how powerful are they really?

10 Son Of Satan

Damian Hellstrom is, well, the Son Of Satan. Pretty on the nose naming there. Anyway, he's pretty much exactly what his name implies him to be. He been known to rule parts of Hell and carry a cool trident that shoots hellfire. While not a very well known character, he is actually pretty powerful.

His heritage as Satan's son gives him access to vast amounts of magical energy, but he's never learned to use his magical as well as others who have less power but have studied more.

9 Enchantress

Not to be confused with the DC version, the Enchantress of the Marvel Universe is an Asgradian named Amora. She's been fighting the Avengers and Thor for years and was one of the founding members of the Masters Of Evil.

Enchantress has mostly used her powers over the years to enchant opponents and others into doing her bidding. She's powerful, but she doesn't use her magic in very powerful ways and, as far as Asgardians magic users go, is low tier.

8 Wiccan

Wiccan's origin is pretty convoluted and only got more so over the years, but he's basically the magically created son of Scarlet Witch and the Vision that everyone thought was wiped from existence but wasn't. He's been a member of the Young Avengers and the New Avengers.

Wiccan's powers allow him to create spells to do most things he needs done just by saying them as well as the ability to learn other magics. He ranks so low on this list because of his youth and comparative lack of magical knowledge.

7 Magik

Illyana Rasputin, Colossus's sister, was kidnapped and taken to Limbo. She would learn magic from Limbo versions of familiar mutants and take rule of the dimension away from the fiendish Belasco. She would return to the real world years older than when she left and would face death and resurrection before becoming one of the linchpins of the modern X-Men.

Magik is a very powerful sorceress. As queen of Limbo, she has access to a massive army of Limbo demons as well. However, for whatever reason, she relies more on her martial skills than her magic.

6 Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful beings around, but that actually has very little to do with her magic. Her natural reality altering powers are what have made Scarlet Witch into one of the most powerful characters of all time. Her magic, though, is quite strong but not as strong as people would like to believe.

Scarlet Witch is a well trained and powerful sorceress but without her reality altering powers, she would just be one of the more skilled sorceresses in the Marvel Universe.

5 Agatha Harkness

Agatha Harkness was one of the original witches of Salem and has spent years surviving the trials of being a witch while also gaining more and more magical knowledge. In recent years, she's been a nanny for the Fantastic Four and one of Scarlet Witch's instructors in magic.

Agatha is much more powerful than frail frame leads others to believe. She's been killed several times over the years but always comes back.

4 Brother Voodoo

Brother Voodoo was once a rather low tier magic user in the Marvel Universe. He had a cult fan following, but no one would have put him on any list of most powerful magic users. However, during Bendis's Avengers run, he became the Sorcerer Supreme and entered a whole new level.

Voodoo wouldn't remain the Sorcerer Supreme for a long time but during his tenure he would have access to the greatest and most powerful magic tomes of them all, gaining him a lot of magical knowledge and power he wouldn't have otherwise.

3 Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom is the ultimate polymath. While some, like the accursed Richards, will focus on only one discipline, Doom has the brain power and wherewithal to master multiple disciplines and one of those is magic. Doom is low key one of the most powerful magic users on the planet.

He's been a candidate for the Sorcerer Supreme and has faced down all kinds of grave magical threats with just his magical powers. It's weird to think that Doom doesn't really need his armor to battle his enemies, but that's the reality.

2 Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange is one of the most powerful Sorcerer Supremes of all time. He's protected the Earth from some of the most terrible magical threats that have ever been, outsmarting beings who are many times more powerful than he could hope to be.

Doctor Strange has done this by studying as much magic as possible. There are very few spells that Strange doesn't know and he's gotten so good at spellcraft he can create his own by combining others together. Simply put, Strange is one of the most powerful beings on Earth.

1 Loki

It's actually kind of debatable who's more powerful between Doctor Strange and Loki, but we're giving this one to Loki. Loki has had millennia to learn as much magic from as many sources as he could access to over the years, which is much longer than Strange. Whereas his brother Thor was all about the brawn, Loki had to learn something that would even up the odds and magic was that thing.

With Loki's native power as the God of Mischief fueling his spellcraft, there are few who match him.
