There are a lot of different types of powers in Marvel Comics. Some beings have cosmic abilities while others are superb hand-to-hand combatants. There is a large contingent of heroes and villains who were born with their abilities. And some acquired them later in life through other means.

Then, there is a group of humans whose greatest power is their respective minds. That doesn't mean telekinesis or telepathy. This means that they are extra super smartypants who can think their way through most problems. It's not that they don't have other fantastic abilities but their vast intelligence is easily the most impressive thing about them.

10 Hank Pym Is A Smart Man Who Makes Bad Choices

Hank Pym as the Wasp

It's hard to ignore all of the fantastic achievements Hank Pym has made as a scientist over the years. His greatest invention is Pym Particles, the substance that allows him to greatly alter his size. But he also developed a means to communicate with and control ants. That's gosh darn impressive.

It's also hard to ignore the fact that Pym was responsible for the creation of Ultron in the comics. Honestly, Ultron is an exceedingly impressive invention, too, as long as all the death and violence he's responsible for isn't part of the conversation.

9 Henry McCoy Is The X-Men's Resident Brain

X-Men Beast X-Force 2

Being known as the Beast certainly comes with a bit of baggage attached to it. The big, blue furry guy is strong, agile, and can actually be quite ferocious when he needs to be. But that is not a good representation of the man behind the fur.

Hank McCoy is a brilliant researcher and scientist who has been the cornerstone of the X-Men since day one. His intelligence greatly outstrips even that of Professor Xavier's. And McCoy's knowledge base is much wider than that of the founder of the X-Men.

8 Amadeus Cho Has Brains And Brawn

Amadeus Cho and his coyote pup

When looking up the term wunderkind in the dictionary, don't be surprised to find a picture of Amadeus Cho next to it. This kid is one of the smartest people in Marvel Comics, human or otherwise. This is has been proven time and time again since his introduction.

While his supercomputer brain gives him a huge advantage, the fact that the kid can also Hulk out doesn't hurt, either. Cho is getting closer and closer to perfecting the difficult balance between brains and brawn. When he gets there, he'll be unstoppable.

7 Peter Parker Frequently Gets Underestimated

Spider-Man Peter Parker Art Adams

As odd as this sounds, Peter Parker often gets left off of lists like this. As Spider-Man, he's best known for his web-slinging heroics and antics. Plus, the man never shuts up and is constantly delivering a neverending stream of babble and jokes.

But it's important to remember that the "babble and jokes" are a tactic designed to confuse his opponents, putting them off their games. More importantly, Parker has developed a massive array of impressive technology all on his own, including his ingenious web-shooters.

6 Bruce Banner Gets Overshadowed By The Hulk

Bruce Banner turning into the Hulk

As odd as this sounds, Bruce Banner and Peter Parker have something rather big in common. Both men are highly intelligent and frequently overshadowed by their super-powered alter egos. Though in Banner's case, the problem is much bigger.

The Hulk is a giant green powerhouse that is fueled by rage, frequently causing mass chaos and destruction. Because of that, it can be easy to forget that Bruce Banner is easily one of the most brilliant people on the planet and is an authority on a variety of subjects.

5 Tony Stark Is A Brilliant Engineer

Tony Stark in MODOK: Head Games

If there is a living embodiment of the concept of being a futurist, it's Tony Stark. The man is perpetually thinking 20 steps down the road, which is why he has a suit of armor for every occasion. That being said, Stark sometimes loses sight of what's going on in the moment.

The level of engineering skills that Tony has is on another level. That was apparent when he built his first suit of armor from the scraps he had to work with while in a terrorist prison camp. Making armor with all the amenities in one thing. Doing it with nothing is another level.

4 Lunella Lafayette Is An Absolute Wild Card

Moon Girl brushes Devil Dinosaur's teeth

Amadeus Cho is young and brilliant. The crazy part is that he isn't the youngest and smartest person hanging around Marvel Comics. That title belongs to Lunella Lafeyette, a Grade 4 student who goes by Moon Girl and hangs out with Devil Dinosaur.

Lunella has super-genius level intellect as well as being a skilled engineer and inventor not to mention an even more skilled computer programmer and hacker. If that's not enough, she can also exchange minds with Devil Dinosaur, giving her some powerhouse moves, too.

3 Victor Von Doom Will Be Mad About Coming In Third

Doctor Doom casts a spell from the Darkhold in Marvel Comics

It's hard to say if Doctor Doom's most prominent quality is his massive intellect or his massive ego. One has led to the other, so it's probably safe to say that the two go hand in hand with each other. Vengeful is also another prominent trait. As such, no one tell him that he came in third on his list.

Without question, Victor Von Doom is brilliant on another level. He has been able to build weapons, armor, and other impressive devices. Additionally, he has also been able to master the dark mystic arts. Doom has been able to achieve literally any goal he has set his mind to.

2 Reed Richards Is Smart On Another Level

Reed Richards as Mr. Fantastic against a city background

When fighting someone with the insane level of intelligence Doctor Doom has, a hero with an equivalent level of intelligence to counteract him certainly doesn't hurt the situation. And while no one should ever say this to Doom's face, Reed Richards is a lot smarter than him.

It's hard to explain how Mister Fantastic sees the world. His super malleable and stretchy body give him an edge, but his mind is without question his greatest power. Some have even theorized that Reed may even be a Mutant due to his incredible level of intelligence.

1 Valeria Richards May Be Smarter Than Her Father

Valeria Richards is ready to rumble

Trying to decide who is superior between Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom is a neverending conversation. While each one of them has their own opinions on the subject, Richards and Doom can agree that Valeria Richards is likely smarter than both of them.

Sometimes going by the name Brainstorm, Valeria has believed herself to be smarter than her father from an early age. And Doctor Doom has the utmost respect for her, which is a rarity. Keeping in mind that she's still quite young, Valeria will inevitably be the smartest of the smart as she grows up.
