Scarlet Witch has long been one of Marvel's most important characters, first battling the X-Men as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and then finding a home with the Avengers. Over the years, she's gone through a lot, as the trials and tribulations of her life proved to be too much for her more than once.

Over the years, Scarlet Witch has done some amazing things. Powers like hers have led her to achieve things that other heroes and villains can only dream of, be they for good or ill, sometimes doing things only gods can do.

10 She Joined The Avengers

Scarlet Witch started her life as a villain but her time with Magneto wasn't exactly good for her, so she and her brother Quicksilver left the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Captain America was creating a new roster of the Avengers, the two joined, and the rest is history. Scarlet Witch became an iconic Avenger, even if she wasn't always the most heroic.

Scarlet Witch's time as an Avenger redefined her as a person. It gave her a chance to do what she wanted, meet people who would help her over the years, and come into her own in a way that seemed impossible before.

9 She Got The Avengers To Trust Her Again

Uncanny Avengers

Scarlet Witch has a rough stretch of years starting with Avengers Disassembled. She had gone evil before but not like she did during this stretch, killing Avengers, remaking the world, and depowering the majority of the mutant race. She disappeared not long after and when she came back, she had an uphill battle to regain her friends' trust, with even Vision shunning her.

Her actions in Avengers Vs X-Men and beyond proved that she could be a hero again. The Avengers gave her another chance and even a mutant who hated her, Rogue, came around and accepted her.

8 She Learned Magic

Scarlet Witch's powers to alter reality weren't magic-based despite her name, and she wouldn't actually start learning magic until becoming an Avenger. Learning from magic users like Agatha Harkness, Scarlet Witch would begin her long journey to mastering magic. It would be a while before she entered Doctor Strange's tutelage, who would help her learn more magic after her breakdowns.

Scarlet Witch's magical skills have grown immensely, just as her reality-altering powers did. Now, she's one of the foremost magic users in the Marvel Universe, making her even more of a threat than she ever was.

7 She Powered The Apocalypse Twins' Ark

The Apocalypse Twins' plan to give mutants a new home and destroy the human race in revenge for how they treated mutants went off without a hitch and a big part of that was because of Scarlet Witch. While this accomplishment isn't exactly positive, it goes to show just how powerful Scarlet Witch can be. She was manipulated into helping the Twins and her powers fueled their Ark.

The Ark transported the mutant race away from the Earth as a Celestial that the Twins had lured to the planet destroyed it. Sure, she got hoodwinked but the amount of power it took for her to do what needed to be done was pretty amazing.

6 She Found Love More Than Once

Some of the best Scarlet Witch stories came from her time with the Vision. Scarlet Witch had a hard life but her attraction to the Vision made things better for both of them, as she found love for the first time in her life and taught the robot to have emotions. The two of them made a great couple and while their marriage didn't go great, it was a high point.

After the Vision, Scarlet Witch found love again, this time with Wonder Man. After the horrors of her early life, the fact that she was even able to find love at all was a huge deal and to find true love twice is a great thing.

5 She Overcame Her Mental Health Issues

Scarlet Witch fell victim to a Marvel storytelling trope with superheroines where she constantly kept having mental health issues. Over the years, those issues were given a good reason but for a long time, as with many other Marvel women, it was just because of the "she couldn't handle her emotions" trope. As time went on, she was able to overcome these issues and work through them.

Scarlet Witch's life was full of terrible trials and tribulations and so much to overcome. The fact that she's been able to come through these problems and move on is a huge accomplishment.

4 She Learned The Truth Of Her Life

HIGH EVOLUTIONARY - Quicksilver Scarlet Witch Luminous

Scarlet Witch and her brother Quicksilver have been in search of the truth in their lives. This search took a long time for them, as they first thought their parents were WWII heroes Miss America and Whizzer, then Magneto, and finally learned that their parents were just normal people and they were experimented on by the High Evolutionary.

While there's always a chance that Magneto will be reinstated as their parent, because Marvel has the film rights to the X-Men again, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver's discovery of their truth was a great achievement.

3 She Single-handedly Smacked Around Every Avenger Ever In Avengers Disassembled

Avengers Disassembled is still one of the biggest Avengers' stories ever and it all revolved around Scarlet Witch breaking down after learning the truth about her children. This caused her to lash out against the Avengers, who wiped her mind of the traumatic memories. Three Avengers died in that fight, as she used her powers to attack the team with their greatest enemies.

The power it took for Scarlet Witch to do that is amazing and while it was a villainous act motivated by her emotional problems, it's hard to deny just how big of an accomplishment it was. She did things that few Avengers villains were ever able to.

2 She Helped Rekindle The Mutant Race In Avengers Vs. X-Men

Avengers Vs. X-Men was uneven but it began Scarlet Witch's redemption. As the titular war between the two teams raged, Scarlet Witch proved to be able to actually affect the Phoenix Force users and the Avengers needed her help. When Cyclops went full Dark Phoenix, Scarlet Witch and Hope Summers were the best weapons against him and separated him from the Phoenix Force.

Working together, combining the power of the Phoenix Force and Scarlet Witch's reality-altering abilities, they were able to undo the damage Scarlet Witch did to the mutant race. Mutants regained their powers and new ones were born, the first step in Scarlet Witch's redemption.

1 She Changed The World & Depowered Mutants In House Of M

Scarlet Witch Says No More Mutants

House Of M represented both Scarlet Witch's most impressive act and her most despicable. She and her brother Quicksilver recreated the world, making mutants into the dominant race and giving her hero friends the lives they always wanted. When they rebelled, it drove her to take drastic action, depowering the vast majority of the mutant race.

One of the worst days in mutant history, M-Day is Scarlet Witch's most infamous accomplishment. It was a terrible act that destroyed countless lives but the fact she was able to pull it off is quite impressive, an act of power that few could muster.
