Yet one team that may surprise casual fans is Big Hero 6. Before Disney created a hit animated film and show based on these characters, the team of Big Hero 6 was Japan’s answer to a group of heroes who could protect them. Here are the ten most powerful members of the team.

10 Wasabi-No-Ginger

The first hero on the team that is truly unique is Wasabi-No-Ginger, a member of the team that formed. He is a chef who has the ability to form throwing knives that paralyze enemies using his Qi-Energy, and is also a well known swordsman as well.

His first outing with the team saw him take on the villain Badgal and three of her minions as well: Whiplash, Brute and Gunsmith. However the connection to the larger Marvel Universe was established when he helped the team work with Spider-Man to stop a series of satellites launched by the villain Doctor Octopus.

9 Fred

The next hero on the team that has a truly amazing power set is none other than Fred, aka “Fredzilla”. Fred and Wasabi-No-Ginger were both replacements for the original team members Sunpyre and Ebon Samurai. Fred grew up on a SHIELD base of operations in Japan, and is descended from the indigenous people of Japan known as Ainu.

The hero is known for his power to become a powerful Kaiju-like creature, and when in his human form his is able to conjure up the powers his Kaiju while in combat, making him a powerful asset to the team.

8 Sunpyre

The next hero on the team is in actuality an extra-dimensional version of an already established character, Sunpyre. The original Sunpyre is the sister of the hero Sunfire, both mutants who gained their powers from their mother after she was exposed to radiation from Hiroshima after the atomic bomb fell.

The extra-dimensional Sunpyre however was a Princess of a Kingdom in the Microverse, but when Honey Lemon accidentally pulled her out of her Power Purse, Sunpyre worshiped Honey Lemon as a goddess and joined the team. However more recently she has returned to reclaim her throne in her dimension.

7 Honey Lemon

One character that fans of the film will be surprised is so crucial to the comic book team’s success is Honey Lemon. Real name Aiko Miyazaki, Honey Lemon is recruited by Naicho, Japan’s most respected intelligence agency, to be a secret agent for the division. Known for her stunning looks and intellect, she made the perfect candidate.

When the Giri began recruiting for the superhero team, she used her status to get her name on the roster, and became the heart and compassionate member of the team. Her Power Purse was used to house miniature wormholes that could access multiple realms and worlds, and store an infinite number of items inside the purse.

6 GoGo Tomago

While Honey Lemon is known as the team’s compassionate member, tough as nails hero Go-Go Tomago is known as the street wise and tough member of the group. An ex-con who spent a few years in prison for theft after falling in with a youth-led motorcycle gang.

After accepting a deal to test new exosuit technology, she became Go-Go Tomago, and joined the original team after securing an early release from prison. A hot-head with a temper and not one to follow orders, she clashed often with Honey Lemon until she found her place on the team, and the two soon became friends.

5 Ebon Samurai

One of the more tragic heroes to join the team was Ebon Samurai, a former Imperial Guard of Japan who was set to protect the Emperor of Japan at all costs. He bravely fought the villainous organization Hydra when they attempted to assassinate the Emperor, but sadly lost his life to the Silver Samurai.

In the afterlife, Kioshi met the primordial god of evil Amatsu-Mikaboshi who convinced Kioshi to accept his power to sate his need for revenge against the Silver Samurai. He returned to Earth bonded to Ebony armor similar in design to the Silver Samurai, and had a blade that was bonded to a demon. He joined the team after learning of the Silver Samurai’s passing.

4 Baymax

One of the more recognizable members of the team, now thanks to the film made by Disney, is none other than Baymax. However like the others, his history is very different in the comics. A creation of team member Hiro, Baymax is a synthformer capable of shape-shifting into various forms depending on the situation.

What makes him unique is that his personality and brain functions are based on the mapped brain of Hiro’s late father, making Baymax a father figure to Hiro. His prime directive is to protect Hiro from harm, making him a member of the team in order to protect Hiro from villains and threats.

3 Hiro Takachiho

One powerful team member is the teenage Hiro Takachiho, a child prodigy with a genius level intellect in many different sciences, including a specialty in biology, physics and robotics, among many other fields. He created Baymax and was approached twice by the Silver Samurai to join the team. However he was not impressed and refused the first two times.

After his mother is abducted by the Everwraith, the astral projection of those who passed in the Hiroshima attack, he joins the team to save her. He then joins to work with his idol Sunfire, and becomes team leader in Sunfire and Silver Samurai’s absence.

2 Sunfire

One of the most powerful members of the team has to be Sunfire. The unique thing about this hero is that he was first seen attacking the United States and subsequently the Avengers and other heroes. After his mother passed on after the Hiroshima attacks, he blamed the U.S. and became a bitter enemy, especially after his mutant powers arrived.

His conflict to do right and be a hero clashed with his hatred of the United States government, but he eventually joined several X-Men and Avenger teams. However his home nation of Japan regards him as a national hero, and he became a prime member of Big Hero 6.

1 Silver Samurai

The most powerful member of Big Hero 6 is field team leader and former villain turned one-time hero Silver Samurai, aka Kenuichio Harada. The Silver Samurai is a mutant who can charge up his katana, and wears a large silver armor that allowed him to not only fight heroes like Daredevil and Wolverine, but work as a bodyguard for the villain Viper.

He eventually became the leader of Clan Yashida after the passing of his half-sister Mariko Yashida, and tried to restore the family honor. Despite being enemies with Wolverine, the two came to a mutual trust and eventually Kenuichio became a hero, opting to lead Big Hero 6 himself.
