Wolverine's tale will take place in the 1940s, with the Captain America story choosing the present-day as its locale. Finally, Namor will star in an untold story featuring an atom bomb.

The list of creators attached to Marvel Comics Presents include Charles Soule, Greg Pak, Ann Nocenti, Tomm Coker, and Paulo Siqueira. The cover to the first issue is illustrated by Arthur Adams.

The first volume of the Marvel Comics Presents anthology was originally published bi-weekly between 1988 and 1995, with a second volume released from 2007 to 2008. The series would highlight C-list characters in one-off tales, with issues also containing four eight-page stories. One of the more noteworthy storylines to be featured in Marvel Comics Presents occurred in Issues #72-84. Written and illustrated by Barry Windsor Smith, "Weapon X" famously revealed Wolverine's origin for the first time.
