In the Marvel Comics world, Thor is a god. He is a member of the immortal Norse gods, but that does not mean he will live forever. As a matter of fact, Norse mythology claims that the end of times will occur, and Thor's death will be one of the moments that brings it about.

However, in the world of comics, there have been several times that Thor has either died or suffered a serious enough injury to leave him on the brink of death. With that said, as with all Marvel Comics' characters, Thor somehow managed to either pull-through or end up resurrected. Here is a look at the 10 most brutal injuries that Thor survived.

10 THANOS TURNS HIM INTO GLASS

There isn't an injury as brutal as having your entire body shattered into a million pieces. However, that is exactly what happened to Thor in the pages of The Infinity Gauntlet storyline.

For fans who saw Thanos throw aside all of Marvel's movie heroes, while barely breaking a sweat, that is what happened here. In this story, he beat Thor by using the Infinity Gems to turn the God of Thunder into glass, and then Thanos shattered him into pieces with one blow.

9 HELA CURSES HIS BODY

Thor vs Hela

Hela was almost too powerful for Thor to beat on the big screen in Thor: Ragnarok. The same thing is true in the comics, as Hela has almost caused Thor's demise on more than one occasion. This one is from when Hela cursed Thor's body and made his bones brittle.

This means that every time he fought someone, his bones would break, and he would become almost worthless. The only thing that saved him from death was Hela, not allowing him to die no matter how badly he was injured.

8 THE GOD BUTCHER

Gorr the God Butcher Thor Esad Ribic - Marvel Comics

Gorr, the God Butcher, had a tragic past that made him hate all gods. He set out to destroy every god in existence to get revenge on them, letting his people down.

He found a young Thor on Earth in the Viking era, and he used his sword to butcher Thor until his Viking followers saved him. Thor is finally able to escape Gorr, and this began their life-long battles between the two beings.

7 KILLED BY THE DESTROYER

Destroyer Stomps Thor

The Destroyer is a being that created to make sure there was something powerful enough to beat the Norse gods if they needed to be taken down. This makes this being strong enough to destroy Thor. In the first Thor movie it attacked the God of Thunder with Loki controlling it.

In the comics, it was Dr. Doom controlling it, and that is even scarier. Loki tricks Balder into transporting Asgard to Latveria. When Thor showed up, The Destroyer attacked and destroyed Thor. Way back in 1998, Thor #1 saw The Destroyer kill Thor, beating him to death and sending him to Hel.

6 DEFEATED BY BOR

thor bor

Bor is the father of Odin and was one of the most powerful Asgardian gods of all-time. Loki brought Bor back to life in the present day and then created illusions that made it seem that Earth was covered by demonic beings, which made Bor believe that his son was dead.

Bor went berserk attacking in a rampage, which led him into battle with Thor, neither knowing who the other was. Bor brutally beat down Thor, and the only way the God of Thunder could stop him was by killing him, causing his punishment from Asgard.

5 MALEKITH CHOPS OFF HIS ARM

Fans who watched Thor: The Dark World saw a little of how powerful Malekith is, but that version of the Dark Elf warrior barely scratches the surface. To see how powerful he is, check out the comic books, where readers can see where the movie dropped the ball with him.

Thor didn't have Mjolnir at this time and was using a battle ax. In Thor Vol. 4 #1, Malekith chopped off Thor's arm, and the book ended with Jane Foster becoming the new Thor.

4 THE WRECKER KILLED HIM

Wrecker takes on Thor

When looking at B-level villains in Marvel Comics, The Wrecker scrapes the bottom of the barrel. Wrecker was just a basic thug and was a member of the Wrecking Crew, leading a team that included names like Piledriver, Thunderball, and Demolisher.

If there is one superhero death that looks almost ridiculous today, it was when Wrecker killed Thor. The fight took place in Thor #148-149 when Odin reduced Thor's power levels. As a result, Wrecker beat Thor to death, and Hela came to retrieve him. However, Thor refused to move on.

3 BUTCHERED BY HELA

Thor and Hela had battled since the days when Thor appeared in Journey Into Mystery. However, many years later, the two had one of their most brutal fights. When they two battled in Thor #361, Thor went into Hela's territory of Hel.

His goal was to free innocent souls, and Hela was there to stop him. She ripped part of his jaw, turned him old, and scarred him. The only reason Thor made it out alive was by threatening to destroy her cape.

2 THE SENTRY

Thor vs Sentry

If there is one superhero in Marvel Comics that is overpowered to a ridiculous level, it is Sentry. He is the closest to Superman in Marvel, but he has even more powers and can beat just about anyone in the entire Marvel Universe.

This includes Thor, and the two battled when Void took over Sentry and turned him evil. Sentry was trying to destroy Asgard, so Thor was there fighting with all his might. Sentry destroys Asgard and brings Thor to his knees before Loki sacrifices himself to save his brother.

1 RAGNAROK

Thor is destined to die during Ragnarok, which is the end of days for Norse mythology. When it comes to Ragnarok, all gods will die, and the world will regrow for a new era without the gods. In both the movies and comic books, Ragnarok has been explored.

In the books, Thor has died twice in Ragnarok, but both times, Thor lived, and Ragnarok was postponed to yet another day. The most significant moment came in Thor Vol. 2 #85, where Thor and Asgard fell.
