Marvel Comics Plans to 'Kill' Spider-Man Next Month

Spider-Man is seemingly set to die in the pages of writer Tom Taylor and artist Ken Lashley's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #12, but there's a big twist: He's the one investigating the mystery behind the death.

The solicitation information for Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #12 became that of Issue #11. In turn, the new solicit for the twelfth issue was released teasing the death of Spider-Man. Taylor confirmed the change on Twitter, writing, "Spider-Man day has been and gone. So, now's a good time to mention Spidey dies in our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #12. Sorry!"

You can read the new solicitation for the issue below.

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #12

  • SPIDER-MAN IS FOUND DEAD IN HIS VERY OWN NEIGHBORHOOD!!!
  • Who did it, and why? Only Spider-Man can solve this mystery! But HOW?!

At this time, it's unclear just what's going on and how Spider-Man is able to investigate his own death. It seems unlikely the hero -- at least the Peter Parker version -- is actually dead, as his main book, Amazing Spider-Man, is still ongoing. Spider-Man will also play a role in the Absolute Carnage event.

The solicitation information for what is now Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #11 teases the return of Mary Jane Watson and her wearing a Spidey costume. She's set to get her own solo series later this year, The Amazing Mary Jane, so she may just end up playing a key role in whatever is happening in this issue.
