9 A New Armor Is Crafted To Absorb The Power of a Rogue Watcher

Doctor Doom and Rogue Watcher

The recent Disney+ series ‘What If…?’ has introduced Uatu The Watcher as the nigh-omnipotent observer of the multiverse, sworn to never interfere with ongoings of any one universe. However, a renegade Watcher named Aron would become fascinated with the early exploits performed by the Fantastic Four, and thus, would kidnap and clone the team to have the clones re-enact their adventures.  Written by Tom DeFalco, Fantastic Four #373-375 would see Victor not only incapacitate Aron but transfer his immense power into a newly crafted armor that could sustain the surge. Interestingly enough, not much was altered from Doom’s traditional look aside from a slight aesthetic choice in having spikes throughout the armor.

8 Dr. Doom Reclaims Counter Earth As Rambo

Doctor Doom as Rambo

Written by Scott Lobdell, Mark Waid, & Andy Kubert, the Onslaught Saga would come to a close with the Fantastic Four and Avengers sacrificing their lives to defeat the colossal psychic threat. However, Franklin Richards would resurrect the heroes in an alternate earth called Counter-Earth where memories of their past lives remained intact to carry on into this new one. Though this turned into a failed reboot on behalf of Marvel, the heroes would return to the main continuity with Doom, who regrettably sacrificed himself against Onslaught, taking reigns of this now hero-vacant planet. Being overthrown by the planet’s denizens, Doom would reclaim his throne in a makeshift armor that resembled Rambo with crude cyber upgrades.

The 616-Fantastic Four are told by their 13266 counterparts that they were duped into having their powers stripped of them by Dr. Doom, sending them across space/time where Stevenson Richards, this reality’s Reed Richards, knew the team would seek them out. Upon re-transferring powers to their respective member, Doom uses the Cosmic Power Siphon to drain Kang and Annihilus of their power, endowing it within himself to become Doom the Annihilating Conquerer.

6 Robbing Wakanda of Their Vibranium, Doom Creates A Powerful Armor

Doctor Doom's vibranium armor from Marvel Comics

The Vibranium native to Wakanda is a highly commoditized alloy that not only absorbs sound vibrations but also acts as an amplifier to mystical properties. In a scheme to usurp Wakanda of their stored Vibranium, Dr. Doom initiates and funds a coup-de-tat with the Desturi, a radical sect of Wakandan’s dissatisfied with the abandonment of isolationism that their country once held. Written by Jonathan Maberry, Doomwar highlighted the conniving lengths Victor would go to by simply sowing chaos for personal gain.

Using the stolen Vibranium, Dr. Doom crafts a magically-enhanced armor that taps into a quantum energy flow that bestows Doom with virtually infinite power. Unfortunately, to de-power and defeat Dr. Doom, T’Challa would have to render all Vibranium across the planet inert, collapsing a vital part of the Wankandan culture and economy as a consequence.

5 Dr. Doom Swoons A Women For A Powerful, Albeit Grotesque, Armor

Mecha Doctor Doom

While his intellect rivals that of Reed Richards, let’s not forget that Victor Von Doom is a man of both science and magic. His mastery in each discipline has earned him respective credence that makes him one of comic books’ most intimidating foes. However, perhaps one of the most morbid yet overlooked manipulations was when Victor deceived his childhood love into a mystical ritual, converting her skin into a nigh-unstoppable armor.

Written by Mark Waid, Fantastic Four Vol3 #67 would bring Victor’s magical background to the forefront, detailing the story of him and his childhood love, Valeria, of who he left behind to pursue his education in America. Now tracking Valeria down, Victor swoons his past love into once again taking his hand, however, this would initiate a ritual in which Valeria’s skin, in excruciating fashion, is ripped from her body only to be bonded to Doom as new magical armor. Wicked and immoral, Doom only makes matters worse by ending his monologue by stating that Valeria will always be “close to his heart”.

4 Atoning For His Past Sins, Doom Becomes Infamous Iron Man

Doom as Iron Man

Throughout the decades Dr. Doom has achieved godhood on more than one occasion, not only claiming the Power Cosmic of Galactus but usurping the multiversal Beyonder’s multiple times. This insatiable drive for power stems from Victor’s obligation to free his mothers’ soul from Mephisto. However, following his reign in Secret Wars 2015, Victor Von Doom is reconstituted into the new universe with not only his facial scar healed, but with a new perspective and narrative on his life.

Recognizing his villainous past has always led him to fall short of his true goal, Victor is enticed into being a hero for a change and thus, seizes the opportunity to claim Tony Starks’ legacy. Becoming the new Iron Man, Victor would carry this mantle for a short stint as the constant resistance and skepticism to his good deeds would drive him back down his villainous path.

Now privy to the Marquis’s vast knowledge, Doom is left in his 616-universe while the Marquis continued his multiversal conquest for slaughter. Taking up a new apprentice in the intermediary time, Clyde returns to Earth-616 with a lavish celebration awaiting him orchestrated by Doom. Hoping to win favor with the Marquis, Doom is instead met with disappointment as his constant failures and defeat have grown distasteful to Clyde.

2 God King Doom Reigns With An All White Armor

God King Doom

Debatably, the height of Victor’s escapades occurs in Secret Wars 2015, written by Jonathan Hickman. As the Multiverse came to an end, Doom alongside the Molecule Man overpower and usurp the Beyonders, a nigh-omnipotent race of beings that resided outside the Omniverse. With this newfound godhood, Doom reassembles the fractures of the Multiverse into a new reality called Battleworld where Doom reigns supreme as God-King Doom.

Wiping the minds of the reconstituted inhabitants, a small contingent of heroes who survived the collapse of the multiverse arrive knowing this reality is not native to the natural order, and thus form a resistance to Dooms’ rule. However, this would be no easy feat as Doom’s power now exceeded the likes of the Infinity Gauntlet, the Phoenix Force, and even the Mad Titan. In a personal confrontation between Doom & Reed, Doom admits that he is jealous of the life his adversary had garnered, a concession that relinquishes Doom from his power.

1 You Can Never Go Wrong With The Classic Green Cape With Metal Armor

Body By Doom: 20 Weird Secrets About Dr. Doom's Body And Armor

The myriad of armors crafted by Victor over the decades has seen him achieve some of the highest forms of power, however, none could ever come close to his iconic look crafted by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Though not his most powerful armor, this was a prime example of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it," as its maneuverability and lightweight density saw him return to this particular armor even after crafting more powerful ones.

Making its debut appearance in Fantastic Four #5, the boisterous green cape with titanium battle armor has not only stood the test of time but has become one of the most iconic outfits worn by a comic book character. Undoubtedly, once he makes his MCU, or at this point, MCM debut, it will be met with praise as one of Marvel’s iconic OG villains is now on the playing field.
