Avengers: Endgame is just around the corner, and you might find the anticipation almost unbearable as we head towards April. However, there are ways you can whet your appetite and keep the excitement going all the way up to the film's huge release.

While Endgame will be a cap on the established MCU stories thus far, it is a story based deeply in the comic books. To keep your excitement going, there are plenty of comics you can read to give you background information about the characters and their conflicts with Thanos. Here are 10 comics to read to be excited for Endgame.

10 INFINITY GAUNTLET

READ IT NOW: $10.99

The premise of Avengers: Infinity War was largely based on the Infinity Gauntlet comic. In it, Thanos wants to impress Death by destroying half of all life on the universe. He assembles the Infinity Gauntlet and snaps his fingers, just like in the film and the remaining Avengers have to work together to bring him down.

Considering that the remaining heroes not decimated by the snap will be acting their vengeance in Avengers: Endgame, this comic is a must-read before you see the film. It's interesting to see how Earth's Mightiest Heroes defeated the Mad Titan then, and the comparisons with the movie will be fun to see.

9 INFINITY WAR

READ IT NOW: $19.99

The struggles involving the Infinity Gauntlet weren't over after the defeat of Thanos. Adam Warlock, an entity who fought with the team last time, had now returned and had a new dark persona that the Avengers had to take down.

This story was known as "Infinity War" and served as a continuation to the "Infinity Gauntlet" epic. Thanos wasn't the biggest threat; he actually had to help bring down this powerful foe. There are some theories going around that Avengers: Endgame could have some bigger threat, so it's possible we could see some more dangerous foe necessitate the Mad Titan teaming up with the Avengers.

8 INFINITY

READ IT NOW: $34.99

Years after events involving the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos made his terrible return to Earth on the knowledge that his son, Thane, lived among the Inhumans. Thanos came to Earth with his dangerous Black Order and his army of Outriders to get the job done, fighting some of the strongest heroes on Earth along the way.

Many of the characters seen in Avengers: Infinity War were heavily featured in this comic, so it would be a good background lesson to give it a read. While there is no reason to suggest that Thane will be making an appearance in Avengers: Endgame, it's a cool comparison to see how he treated a child in the comics versus the films.

7 AVENGERS FOREVER

READ IT NOW: $19.99

Avengers: Endgame seems that it will be heavily dealing with time travel (possibly through entities like the Quantum Realm). A great way to prepare for that insane problem-solving in the movie will be to read how a similar thing was handled in the comics. Avengers Forever deals with seven Avengers plucked from different time periods.

They must work together to protect a defenseless boy who had somehow been targeted by a vicious threat. In that comic, the Avengers also gained help from Kang the Conqueror, one of their greatest foes. The idea of a villain teaming up with the heroes could be one seen in the upcoming film.

6 AVENGERS: DISASSEMBLED

READ IT NOW: $6.99

"Avengers: Disassembled" was the story that shook apart Earth's Mightiest Heroes. After decades of seeing them team up to fight threats larger than any one hero could handle, it seemed like they were going to be a constant as long as the Marvel Universe lived.

However, "Avengers: Disassembled" came and notably shook things up by posing what would happen if the team were to split up. This was already done in the MCU with Captain America: Civil War, and in some ways in Avengers: Infinity War. Avengers: Endgame will be the first time we see those heroes working together again to take down a common universal threat.

5 SECRET WARS (1984)

READ IT NOW: $19.99

"Secret Wars" was a big deal when it first came out. The story saw many of Earth's heroes swept away to compete in a powerful battle as dictated by the Beyonder. However, there were plenty of villains taken along the way, leading to a glorious battle royale that would go down in Marvel history.

While the MCU is a long way from ever attempting to adapt "Secret Wars", there are some thoughts about Avengers: Endgame that would at least have some ties. First of all, there are a few villains returning for a final MCU appearance in the film, similar to the many villains in "Secret Wars". If this is the case, there's no doubt we'll witness a crazy battle.

4 ANNIHILATION

READ VOL. 1 NOW: $24.99 | READ VOL. 2 NOW: $19.99

"Annihilation" was a cosmic event that rocked the Marvel Universe. There was a monster from the Negative Zone, Annihilus, who got out and started spreading destruction across the universe. To save everyone and everything, dozens of powerful heroes and villains had to work together to stop him.

Characters like Drax and Silver Surfer were fighting side by side to get the job done. There has been speculation about Annihilus appearing in Avengers: Endgame as some sort of "bigger threat," so this comic is a great way to get to know who Annihilus is. Furthermore, this is the story that reintroduced the world to Star-Lord and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

3 CAPTAIN MARVEL VOL 1: HIGHER, FURTHER, FASTER, MORE

READ IT NOW: $10.99

Captain Marvel is the newest character joining the MCU. Not only is she getting her own movie before Avengers: Endgame, but she is also set to appear in the big fight with Thanos. If you need to brush up on Captain Marvel knowledge, then we'd recommend Captain Marvel: Higher, Further, Faster, More.

Not only was the title used to help market the movie, but it's an excellent introduction to Carol Danvers as a character and a superhero. Who is she? What motivates her? It's a basic start to how Captain Marvel was later integrated into the MCU, and will also give readers a good sense of who this new Avenger is going to be.

2 THANOS VOL 2: THE GOD QUARRY

READ IT NOW: $10.99

Who is Thanos? What drives the Mad Titan to his actions? These are the questions posed in Avengers: Infinity War, and they are questions posed in Thanos Vol 2: The God Quarry. Avengers: Endgame will likely give us more of the Mad Titan on the big screen, but if you want to read more about how he works, then "The God Quarry" story is a great place to start.

This comic takes all of Thanos' power and friends away from him, and he's forced to survive through whatever means possible. We learn who the Mad Titan is and why he chooses to fight so strongly.

1 CAPTAIN AMERICA: REBORN

READ IT NOW: $10.99

Captain America has gone through a major arc in the MCU since his debut in Captain America: The First Avenger. He sacrificed himself for his country, led a team of superheroes, worked for modern America, left it behind, and is now fighting for the Avengers as a different hero.

Avengers: Endgame is seeking to bring his arc full circle by turning him into Captain America once more. With that all but confirmed for the movie, we'd recommend Captain America: Reborn as a way of seeing how the comics handled a different version of Steve Rogers. Identity is a crucial theme in comics, especially when it comes to Cap.
