Hot on the heels of the news that Marvel Comics will be revamping its entire publishing line in 2018 comes word that Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness will be rebooting Avengers with an all-new #1.

Announced via IGN, the new Avengers series will arrive in May, kicking off the entire publishing line's "fresh start," as Marvel has dubbed the initiative.

The series will be Marvel's sole Avengers title moving forward, though it will release 18 issue per year rather than 12. While this may be disappointing for fans hoping for the returns of New Avengers, Uncanny Avengers and Occupy Avengers once Marvel's current weekly Avengers event "No Surrender" concludes, Aaron promises he and McGuinness aim to deliver as story readers will be happy with.

"My aim with this series is basically, if you only read one Marvel comic -- not that you should read just one Marvel comic, but if you did -- if you picked this book up, this would show you the landscape of the Marvel universe issue after issue," Arron told IGN of the new title. "We want to feature the biggest characters and go to the coolest, most exotic locations around the Marvel U."

In addition to Marvel's "big three" Avengers -- Captain America, Iron Man and the Odinson incarnation of Thor -- the team will include Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange (who's role will be as a part-timer) and a massive She-Hulk. Perhaps most interestingly, though, is the inclusion of the Robby Reyes incarnation of Ghost Rider on the roster.

"Robbie Reyes is sort of the new kid on the block, he doesn’t really know any of these other characters, they don’t know him," Aaron explains of the young hero's place on the team. "They know the Ghost Rider, but this is a Ghost Rider not quite like anyone they’ve ever met before.”

Aaron and McGuinness' plans not only include this version of the team, but also the popular stars of last year's massive Marvel Legacy one-shot: the Avengers of 1,000,000 B.C. The writer plans to take a page from his years writing Thor's various comics and spin a tale that takes place throughout all of Marvel history, entwining the present incarnation's team's adventures with the previously untold tales of the original Avengers.

Avengers #1, by Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness, arrives in May 2018 from Marvel Comics.
