We're still a little under two years away from the release of "Avengers: Infinity War," but those involved behind the scenes are already hard at work plotting out the storyline for the culmination of years' worth of Marvel Cinematic Universe films. As proof, Marvel Co-President Louis D'Esposito tweeted out a teaser photo, which reveals a relatively unsurprising choice of source material for the upcoming movie.

"I'm in the coolest #AvengersInfinityWar meeting," D'Esposito tweeted, showing off the cover of the six-issue 1991 event "The Infinity Gauntlet." Just as a refresher: "The Infinity Gauntlet" series involved Thanos finally acquiring all six Infinity gems, thus giving him godlike powers and the mastery of space and time. In hopes of wooing the personification of Death, the Mad Titan erased half of all life in the universe, prompting a battle between himself and the remaining Marvel superheroes.

While Thanos amassing the gems seems like a given considering everything we've seen in the MCU so far, it remains unclear which of the more pivotal characters from the miniseries will make it into the movie. Both the Silver Surfer and Adam Warlock figure prominently within the comic: the former will almost assuredly not show up due to rights restrictions from Fox, while the latter has yet to be introduced in the films. Likewise, Death herself has yet to make an appearance, so who knows just how closely D'Esposito and Marvel will stick to the source material? Perhaps a certain Sorcerer Supreme who just got his own debut will sub in for Warlock?

That being said, we're still a couple years off from "Infinity War" hitting theaters, so a lot could happen -- including some unannounced character debuts -- between now and May 4, 2018.
