Between Thanos and Ego, it's pretty hard to determine the worst father in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the supposedly heroic Odin might actually be in competition with the two villains for the prize.

Actor Anthony Hopkins first stepped into the role of Odin in 2011's Thor, which saw the King of Asgard banish the God of Thunder to teach him a lesson. There's a lot revealed in that film that might make fans question Odin's parenting skills, as he definitely played a role in the deep and deadly rivalry between his two sons.

The franchise's two sequels reveal even more of Odin's sinister side. In Thor: The Dark World, Odin seems more than happy to send Asgardian warriors to die against Malekith's Dark Elves, which is pretty terrible in and of itself. However, it wasn't until 2017's Thor: Ragnarok that fans got a real taste of exactly how awful Odin has treated others. The main conflict of that movie's plot centered around the revelation that the former King of Asgard imprisoned and erased the existence of his daughter, Hela. After she reappeared, Hela revealed Odin's history of conquest and bloodshed, which certainly cast Asgard's history in a new and terrifying light.

Unfortunately, Thor and Loki may never get to work out their complicated relationship due to the latter's apparent death at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. However, a lot of fans think that Loki will indeed return in the future, and there's a good chance Loki's upcoming solo show on Disney+ will shed some more light on his relationships with his adopted family.
